Al Modrzejewski

Al Modrejewski, is in his 20th year of his second stint as an assistant coach with the Golden Eagles in 2018 – 19, his fifth as an assistant coach under head coach Marcess Williams, his 26th year working the sideline at Tippin Gym and his 33rd overall in college coaching. 

Modrejewski has been a part of over 350 wins at Clarion and has been an assistant coach for a pair of PSAC West titles (2000 & 2005), the school's lone PSAC Title (2001) and one trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs (2001).  He also served as the interim head coach for the Golden Eagles from July 2014 to October 2014 following the retirement of long-time head coach Ron Righter. 

An experienced, knowledgeable and widely recognized coach, Modrejewski recruited the school and PSAC all-time leading scorer Kwame Morton, who was the 1994 NCAA DII National Player of the Year. He also recruited Oronn Brown, who set the NCAA Division II career steals marks during his playing days.. Brown was also a 1997 NCAA DII third team All – American. In all, Modrejewski has recruited 12 1,000-point career scorers and 24 All – PSAC players for the Golden Eagles.  

Modrejewski started his Clarion coaching career in 1989-90 and helped the Golden Eagles to 91 wins in six seasons, including 19 wins in 1992 and 17 in 1993, before leaving the Golden Eagles to spend one season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I St. Francis (N.Y.) in 1996, two NCAA Division II playoff seasons at Pitt-Johnstown (1997-98) and one season at fellow PSAC member East Stroudsburg (1999).

Modrejewski returned home in August 1999, and in his first season back the Golden Eagles won 20 games and the PSAC West title before following that up with 19 wins, the PSAC title and NCAA Division II playoff berth in 2001. In his 20 years back on Clarion's bench, the Golden Eagles have averaged nearly 16 wins per season while making the PSAC Playoffs ten times.   

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Modrejewski graduated from Thomas Jefferson High in 1980 and attended Alliance College. The student Sports Information Director from 1981- 85 and Sports Editor of the school paper ("The Eagle"), he also was the student assistant basketball coach from 1982 – 85. He graduated in 1985 with a degree in Communications.

Al was a G.A. in Sports Information  at Point Park University (Pittsburgh, PA) in 1986 and assistant coach at St. Mary's College (Michigan) in 1987. He returned to Point Park and was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator  for the 1988 and 1989 seasons before coming to Clarion.
