Edinboro Defeats Clarion 35-6

(CLARION, PA): Edinboro's Matt Phillips ran for two touchdowns and qb Justin Bouch passed for 184 yards as the Fighting Scots defeated Clarion 35-6 in a key PSAC-West game on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Edinboro raised its overall record to 5-2 and 2-1 in the PSAC-West, while Clarion dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the West.

Clarion drew to within 14-6 midway through the third quarter on Mark Hofmeister's 33-yard field goal with 8:34 left.

Edinboro's Brandon Munson scored on a 9-yard run with 3:42 left in the third to give the Scots a 21-6 advantage. The score was set up when defensive back Raji El-Amin intercepted a Brad Reifsnyder pass at the Clarion 30 and returned it to the Golden Eagle 25. Munson scored four plays later to give the Scots a two score cushion.

Early in the fourth quarter the Scots put the game away on a Matt Phillips two yard run with 14:34 remaining, giving Edinboro a 28-6 lead. The scoring drive was set up when Justin Lipscomb returned a Clarion punt 38-yards Clarion 36. Edinboro's Bouch hit Lipscomb on a 24-yard pass to the Clarion 12 and Phillips rushed for ten yards to the 2, before bulling over for the score.

Mike Martin added a 2-yard scoring run with 8:33 remaining to end the scoring.

Clarion totaled 260 yards on the day including 111 rushing yards and 149 passing. Starting qb Felton Woulard led Clarion with 59 rushing yards and completed 5 of 9 passes for 97 yards, before exiting in the third quarter with a bruised shoulder. Wideout Pierre Odom grabbed 5 passes for 84 yards. Defensively, Jabari Weatherspoon had 9 tackles,1 tfl and 1 break-up, while Troy Bowers made 5 tackles and blocked a field goal.

Edinboro gained 417 total yards including 191 rushing and 226 passing. Phillips gained 72 yards and 2 td's on 16 carries, while Munson rushed for 62 yards and 1 td on 10 carries.

QB Justin Bouch completed 12 of 18 passes for 184 yards.

Defensively Seth Fragale had 11 tackles and 2 tfl's, while Eric Neavins had 10 stops.

Clarion travels to Shippensburg next week, while Edinboro returns home to host Slippery Rock.
