After dropping a gut-wrenching 13-10 overtime game to Millersville on Saturday night, Clarion will try and rebound this week when it travels to Glenville State (W.Va.) on Saturday to take on the Pioneers at Morris Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm

LUKE 48-52 IN 10 YEARS AT CLARION
Clarion enters the game with an 0-2 overall record having dropped two home games to start the 2003 season. Last week's 13-10 overtime loss to Millersville was preceded by a 31-21 loss in the opener to East Stroudsburg. Head coach Malen Luke has a ten year record of 48-52 at Clarion and is in his 16th year overall as a head coach with a record of 85-73. Clarion has won the PSAC-West in 1996 and 2000 under Luke, while the 1996 squad advanced to the NCAA semifinals.
GLENVILLE 0-2 IN 2003/SHAFFNER IN 4TH SEASON
Glenville also enters the game with an 0-2 record in 2003. The Pioneers lost their opener at Millersville 27-25, then lost last Saturday at West Chester 56-7. Head coach Paul Shaffner is in his fourth season at Glenville and has an overall record of 13-20. Last year the Pioneers were 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the WVIAC.
CLARION LEADS OVERALL SERIES 2-1
Clarion and Glenville have played three games in the series history, with Clarion leading 2-1. The first game was in 1996 (in Clarion) and the Golden Eagles won going away 49-23. The following season at Glenville the Pioneers defeated Clarion 51-0. Last year, in Clarion, the Golden Eagles won 59-38 and set a new single game rushing record with 519 rushing yards as a team.
CLARION OFFENSE READY TO RUN
The Golden Eagle offense has been based mainly on the running game in 2003. Clarion is averaging 214.5 rushing yards and 65 passing yards for a total offense of 279.5 per game.
The big question will be who is starting at quarterback this week? Senior
Frantz Charles started in game one and rushed for 84 yards on 22 carries. Charles missed the Millersville game with a leg injury. Last week freshman Felton Woulard ran 32 times for 124 yards, while also passing for 63 yards and a td. In two games Woulard has rushed 42 times for 181 yards and 1 td, and completed 8 of 15 passes for 124 yards and 1 td. Woulard missed the final six minutes of regulation and the overtime with an injury, but could return this week. Should both qb's be unable to go, freshman
Brad Reifsnyder would be the signal caller. He completed 1 of 2 passes on Saturday.
The running game will be led by tailbacks
Jason Warner and
Marcus Lowe, with halfbacks
Brandon Sweeney and
Glenn Lovelace also carrying the mail. Warner has 91 yards on 19 tries, and Lowe 23 yards on 7 carries. Sweeney has toted the pigskin 10 times for 51 yards and 1 td and Lovelace 8 yards on 7 carries.
The receiving corps features Ed Rivers (2 grabs, 19 yards), Pierre Odom (2 catches, 72 yards, 1 td) and Ron Rivage (2 catches, 14 yards).
CLARION DEFENSE LED BY BOWERS & WEATHERSPOON
Clarion's defense is giving up 212 rushing yards and 107 passing yards for a total offense of 319 per game this season.
Up front Clarion is led by All-America noseguard
Troy Bowers. Bowers, the PSAC-West 2002 "Defensive Player of the Year", was named the PSAC-West "Player of the Week" last Saturday against Glenville. Bowers posted 11 tackles, 2 sacks, a total of 3 tfl's and caused a fumble. In two games Bowers has 16 tackles, 4 tfl's and 3 sacks, with 1 fumble caused and 1 recovered. Also playing up front are Tim Connolly (10 hits, 1 tfl),
Ben Heisel (6 stops, 1 tfl),
Corey Shaner (3 hits) and Matt Niedbala.
The perimeters are guarded by
Jabari Weatherspoon (18 stops, 1 tfl) and
Colin Brubaker.
Linebackers ready to make hits are
Shaun Saad (15 tackles, 1 tfl), Matt Morris (13 stops, 2 fumbles recovered),
Kyle Brubaker (5 jolts) and
Brock Luke (5 tackles). Luke started against ESU, but missed the Millersville game with a leg injury.
The secondary features corners
Myron Hargon (3 hits,, 3 break ups),
James Charles (3 tackles, 1 fumble rec.) And
Kerwin Cledanor (5 stops, 1 intercept), along with safeties
Emil Johnson (13 tackles, 3 tfl's) and
Bo Busch (17 hits, 1 sack, 2 fumbles caused).
CONRAD LEADS POTENT PIONEER OFFENSE
Glenville has a very potent offense averaging 312.5 yards per game. The Pioneers get 96 rushing yards and 216.5 passing yards per game.
Quarterback Joey Conrad is a talented signal caller. Conrad has clicked on 40 of 79 passes for 423 yards and 5 td's this season. Last year he completed 201 of 381 passes (20 int's) for 2,480 yards and 23 td's.
The receiving corps will be led by Antonio Carter, Tavon McGee and tight end Joe Keeney. Carter has 9 catches for 130 yards and 3 td's this season. Last year he grabbed 70 aerials for 956 yards 8 td's. McGee, a converted qb, has also grabbed 9 passes for 93 yards and 1 td, while Keeney has 7 catches for 81 yards.
The running game will be paced by tailbacks Arthur Bryant (30 carries, 83 yards) and Rashaad Razzaaq (5 attempts, 16 yards).
GLENVILLE DEFENSE GIVING UP RUSHING YARDAGE
The Glenville defense is giving up 459.7 yards per game this season, including 314.5 yards on the ground and 145 passing yards per game.
Up front the Pioneers are led by noseguard Dana Raba (12 tackles, 1 tfl) and tackles Brian Heffner (7 hits) and Otis Everett (3 stops).
The second line of defense includes inside linebackers Rob Hinton (17 stops, 1 tfl) and Zathan Wright (10 jolts, 1 fumble recovery), and outside linebackers Salmon Patrick (18 tackles, 2 tackles) and Dennis Stanton (15 jolts, 2 tfl's).
The secondary will be led by free safety Zack Hopkins (23 stops, 1 int), strong safety Rich St. Julien (14 tackles) and corners Lamont Howard (1 tfl) and Lawrence Bethea (9 tackles).

Mark Hofmeister booted a 42-yard field goal against Millersville, his first at Clarion and had plenty of room to spare ... Hofmeister tried a 52-yard field goal in overtime, but the attempt was blocked ... The Clarion career long field goal was set by fromer All-America kicker John Desmond in 1985 ... He booted a 49-yarder against Cheyney ... Jerry Haslett was the holder ... Last year's Glenville game was quite an offensive output between the two teams... Clarion had 561 total yards while Glenville had 431, for a total of 992... Clarion rushed for a team record 519 yards, with Robert Walker getting 205 and 5 rushing td's on 25 carries, and
