Waltko Wins title at 133-pounds

Clarion wrestlers Joe Waltko (So. Allison Park) at 133 and James Fleming (So. West Mifflin) at 157 won individual titles and eight other wrestlers earned top 6 places at the Clarion Knight Point Open on Saturday, November 6th.
 
            The opening wrestling event of the 2010-11 season and held at the Rec Center at Clarion University, Waltko and Fleming both went 4-0 to win their titles.
 
            Waltko won his title at 133-pounds by first defeating Tyler Sackett (Navy) by tech. fall (20-3), then won 6-0 over Tyler Rauenzan (Army), and 4-2 over Pitt's Shelton Mack before defeating Clarion's Jay Ivanco (Sr. Monroeville) 6-1 in the finals.
 
            Fleming, who won his title at 157-pounds, opened with an 11-2 major decision over Keith Ryan (UPJ), then won a 15-0 tech fall over James Rafferty (Army), and wbf at 6:40 over Kirk Landon (Army) before posting an 11-1 major decision over Matt Jackson (Navy) in the finals.
 
            Finishing second on the day were Jay Ivanco at 133, Alex Thomas (So. Seaford, De.) at 197 and Quintas McCorkle (Jr. Alexandria, Va.) at 285. Taking third place were Cameron Moran (Jr, James City/Kane) at 141 and Clint Podish (Jr. Sycamore/Waynesburg Central) at 197, while Tyler Bedelyon (So. Lewistown) was fourth at 141, Devin Cook (Fr. Bedford) was fifth at 133 and Nick Milano (So. Erie) was sixth at 165.
 
            Ivanco was 3-1 in placing second at 133.
 
            Thomas lost in the finals at 197-pounds to Pitt's Zac Thomusseit by an 11-5 score. He reached the finals by defeating Tyler Zittle (Shipp) by fall at 5:20 and won 3-0 over Dan Hopkins (Rutgers).
 
            McCorkle lost to Ptt's Ryan Tomei 12-5 in the finals. He advanced to the finals with wins over Hunter Manspile (George Mason) 6-3, Harry Turner (LH) 7-0 and Dan Estricher (Shipp) 3-1.
 
            Cook was 4-1 at 133, Moran was 4-1 at 141, Bedelyon 2-2 at 141, Milano 3-2 at 165 and Podish 3-1 at 197.
 
            Clarion, led by fifth year head coach Teague Moore, returns to action on Saturday, November 13 at the Oklahoma Gold Invitational at Brockport, N.Y.
