Anthony White (Fr. Phila. North Catholic) at 149,
James Fleming (So. West Mifflin) at 157 and
Quintas McCorkle (Jr. Alexandria, Va.) at heavyweight all finished second at their weight classes leading Clarion to a fourth place finish at the Oklahoma Invitational held at Brockport, N.Y. on Saturday.
Clarion had six total placewinners on the day with
Joe Waltko (So. Allison Park) third at 133,
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov (Jr. Tashkent, Uzzbekistan) third at 165 and
Clint Podish (Jr. Sycamore/Waynesburg Central) third at 197.
White, a freshman, advanced to the finals with wins over James Loomis (Buffalo) 11-2, Sean McCarty (American) 8-1 and Joe McCauley (Rutgers) 8-1, before losing in the finals to Desmond Green of Buffalo 4-3.
Fleming reached the finals with three wins over Clay Reeb (Oklahoma) fall 0:47, Rudy Chelednik (Army) major 12-0, and majored #2 seed Daryl Cocozzo (Rutgers) 11-0 before losing to Oklahoma's Matt Lester 7-3 in the finals.
McCorkle was 3-1 in finishing second at 285-pounds. Quintas opened with a 4-3 tie breaker win over Carl Buchholtz (Rutgers), a 10-4 win over Pat Krentz (Brockport) and a 7-3 win over #2 seed Nate Fernandez (Oklahoma). He lost in the finals to DJ Russo of Rugters 8-1.
Waltko was 1-1 in the championship bracket, but won four straight in the wrestle backs to take third place. Waltko defeated Kevin Tao (American) 8-6 in overtime to get to the third pace match, then dropped Jordan Thome (Army) 8-5 for third.
Abdurakhmonov was also 5-1 in placing third at 165-pounds in his first Clarion outing. After going 1-1 in the championship bracket, he rolled to four straight victories in the wrestle backs. He defeated Oklahoma's Chase Nelson 12-8 to get to the third place match where he pinned Jimmy Sheptock (Maryland) at 1:36. He avenged an earlier 8-7 loss to Sheptock.
Podish was 4-1 in placing third at 197-pounds. He defeated Mike Wagner (Rutgers) 4-0 to get to his third place match, then defeated Christian Boley (Maryland) 4-0 for third place.
Led by fifth year head coach Teague Moore, the Eagles return to action on November 21 at the Body Bar Invitational In Ithaca, N.Y.
