Jamar Harrison,
Paul McQueen and
Lloyd Harrison each recorded double-doubles to lead the Clarion University men's basketball team to a 104-77 win over Central Penn in its home opener Tuesday night at Clarion's Tippin Gym.
Jamar Harrison had 19 points, 10 rebounds, McQueen added 11 points and 13 boards and
Lloyd Harrison 15 points and 10 assists (he also had four steals and three rebounds).
Bud Teer added a game-high 20 points to go with five rebounds and tied a Clarion record by going 14 of 14 from the free-throw line. He is the first Golden Eagle to hit all of his free throws when taking at least 10 since Terrance Vaughns went 10-for-10 Feb. 15, 2006, at Slippery Rock, and his 14 made free throws are the most by a Clarion player since Gregg Frist made 15 Feb. 14, 1998, at Lock Haven.
Also reaching double figures for Clarion (2-0) were
Mike Sherry with 12 points on four three-pointers and
Mike Kromka, who earlier in the day was named the PSAC-West Freshman of the Week, with 10 points, four rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot off the bench. It marked the second straight game the Golden Eagles had six players reach double digits.
Clarion led from start to finish and was up 58-33 at halftime before outscoring Central Penn 46-44 in the second half.
Four Central Penn (5-3) players reached double digits led by 19 points off the bench by David Squire. Montez Lacy added 13 points, Lateef Parks 12 points and seven rebounds and Majok Majok 11 points.
Clarion shot 52.3 percent (34 of 65) for the game including 62.5 percent (20 of 32) in the first half while limiting Central Penn to 44.6 percent shooting (29 of 65) including 36.1 percent (13 of 36) in the first half. The Golden Eagles forced 23 turnovers and came up with 17 steals led by
Lloyd Harrison's four and
Denzil Dennison's three.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 7 p.m. Monday at the University of the District of Columbia before returning to Tippin Gym to start a six-game home stand at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 against Michigan-Dearborn.
NOTES – Teer is the first Golden Eagle to be perfect at home in free throws when taking at least 10 since Rollie Smith went 12 of 12 Jan. 18, 2003, against Pitt-Johnstown and the 14 made free throws are the most at Tippin Gym by a Clarion player since Kwame Morton made 15 against Wheeling Jesuit Dec. 11, 1993 ….The three double-doubles were the most since Damon Gross, Lamar Richburg and Josh Yankee each record double-doubles vs. Briarcliffe Feb. 24, 2008 … Clarion is now 58-15 in home openers since 1936 (no records exist for 1938 and 1965) including 35-8 in 43 home openers at Tippin Gym which includes a record of 19-4 under 23
