Box Score

ERIE – Mercyhurst used a 13-5 run in overtime to outscore the Golden Eagles by nine points in the extra session to get a 90-81 win in PSAC-West men's basketball action Wednesday night at Mercyhurst.

Clarion (10-4 overall, 1-2 PSAC-West) trailed by 20 in the second half, 54-34, but used a 17-0 run to get back in the game and ended up taking a 71-70 lead with 1:38 to play in regulation on two Bud Teer free throws.

Mercyhurst went back ahead 72-71 on a pair of Haden Ratner free throws with 1:20 to play in regulation. The game remained at 72-71 until Lloyd Harrison was fouled driving to the hoop with 4.5 seconds to play. Harrison, though, missed he first free throw before hitting the second one to force the game to overtime.

In overtime, Clarion scored the first basket to go ahead 73-72 before Mercyhurst answered with the 13-5 run that was capped by a Ratner three-pointer with 1:53 to play to go ahead 85-78 and pretty much put the game away.

That Ratner, the PSAC's leading scorer, hit the key three-pointer was fitting considering he ended with a game-high 34 points.

Luis Leao scored 12 of his 27 points in overtime for Mercyhurst and completed a double-double with 11 rebounds with Shelton Jackson adding 19 points.

Bud Teer had 22 points and 12 rebounds for Clarion, his fourth straight double-double and this seventh on the season.

Mike Sherry added a season-high 24 points for the Golden Eagles with 20 of them coming in the first half, while Jamar Harrison had 16 points with all his points coming in the second half and overtime. Lloyd Harrison chipped in 13 points , four assists and five rebounds.

Clarion trailed 39-28 at halftime, and Mercyhurst started the second half on a 15-6 run to get the lead up to 20 before Clarion started its comeback.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at IUP.
