Winfield Willis and
Calvin Edwards combined to score 37 points to lead the Clarion University men's basketball team its first win of the season, 80-69, over Lincoln Saturday at the PSAC/CIAA Challenge at California, Pa.
Willis, a freshman, had his second big game for the Golden Eagles (1-1) pouring in 19 points to go with three assist and two steals. He has scored 47 points in his first two games and shot 6-for-10 from the field Saturday.
Edwards, a junior playing in his second game for the Golden Eagles, added 18 points and three assists, while
Leonard Patterson had 14 points, four assists and two steals and
Paul McQueen 12 points and seven rebounds.
Clarion used a 10-2 run at the start of the second half to break open a four-point halftime lead, 32-28. Bud Teer, who finished with nine points and six rebounds, had four points during the run with McQueen, Willis and Patterson each chipping in two. After the run, the Golden Eagles advantage never dipped below double digits the remainder of the game reaching a high of 18 points several times.
Lincoln (0-2) got 16 points from Justin Jackson and 15 from Jai Kellman.
Clarion returns to action Tuesday when it opens its home season at 7:30 p.m. against Holy Family.
NOTES – Clarion shot 55.1 percent (27 of 49) from the field compared to Lincoln's 37.3 percent (22 of 59) … The Golden Eagles also won the battle on the boards 37-29.
