CLARION – Coming off an eight-day layoff, the Clarion University men's basketball team returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Division III Susquehanna at Tippin Gym.
 
The Golden Eagles (2-3 overall, 1-1 PSAC West) were victorious in their last outing knocking off East Stroudsburg 65-63 on three Calvin Edwards' free throws with 2.2 seconds left to give 24th year head coach Ron Righter his 400th career win (400-275) in his 26th year as a head coach.
 
Susquehanna (0-2) is coming off two straight defeats by a total of five points. The Crusaders dropped a 67-66 decision at Lycoming Nov. 22.
 
Clarion is led by senior forward Paul McQueen, who is averaging 18 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Winfield Willis is adding 16 points per contest and Edwards 13.8. Bud Teer is chipping in with 10.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per contest.
 
Spenser Spencer (15.5 ppg) and Harley Sellinger (14.5 ppg) lead Susquehanna, who also lost 68-64 to New Jersey City. This is the second time this year the Crusaders have played up, as they lost an exhibition game 72-63 to St. Francis (Pa.), a contest they led 38-31 at halftime.
 
After Tuesday, Clarion returns to the road for two PSAC games over the weekend (at West Chester Saturday and at Millersville Sunday) before returning home for three contests next week (Central Penn Dec. 7, Shippensburg Dec. 9 and Cheyney Dec. 10). They are the first of eight straight homes games for the Golden Eagles.
 
NOTES – Clarion is 31-3 in the last 10 years vs. non-NCAA Division II/Division I schools and has won 10 straight. The Golden Eagles have won 23 in a row at Tippin Gym over those opponents … Clarion is four wins shy of 400 all-time at Tippin Gym. In their 44th season at Tippin, the Golden Eagles are 396-166 including 232-96 under Righter, who is 376-251 at Clarion.
