CLARION – Clarion used a pair of nearly identical runs in each half to pick up its third win of the season with an 86-44 win over visiting Susquehanna Tuesday night at Tippin Gym.
The Golden Eagles (3-3), winners of two straight, built a 40-23 halftime lead on the strength of a 25-10 run and then used a 25-11 game-ending run to put away the Crusaders (0-3).
Winfield Willis led Clarion with 20 points and hit 5 of 11 3-pointers including three straight in a one-minute stretch midway through the second half.
Mike Kromka and Bud Teer each added double-doubles with Kromka scoring a career-high 16 points while tying his career best with 12 rebounds. Teer added 13 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and his 16
th in the last two years.
Also reaching double digits for the Golden Eagles was
Calvin Edwards with 11 points. Edwards had an all-around solid game adding seven rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal.
Paul McQueen chipped in eight points and nine rebounds with
Leonard Patterson also scoring eight points and dishing out four helpers.
J.T. Wilson led Susquehanna with 12 points and five rebounds with Harley Sellinger adding 10 points.
Clarion shot 49.2 percent from the field (31 of 63) and 78.3 percent (18 of 23) from the free-throw line while holding Susquehanna to 27.3 percent (15 of 55) shooting including 18.8 percent (3 of 16) from beyond the arc.
Clarion led 11-7 early but used the 25-10 run that featured scoring from five different players to take the 17-point halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday at West Chester (3 p.m.) and Sunday at Millersville (3 p.m.) before returning to Tippin Gym for three straight games next week. Clarion hosts Central Penn (7:30 p.m.) Dec. 7, Shippensburg (7:30 p.m.) Dec. 8 and Cheyney (4 p.m.) Dec. 10.

Ron Righter was honored for winning his 400
th game Nov. 20 with a 65-63 win at East Stroudsburg. Righter is one of just 29 active NCAA Division II coaches with 400 wins and one of just three in the PSAC. He is 401-275 in 26 years as a head coach including 377-251 at Clarion with three PSAC West and one PSAC title.
