CLARION WRESTLERS AT LH SUNDAY

#5 Ranked James Fleming at 157-pounds

 
            Clarion University's NCAA Division I Wrestling team will travel to Lock Haven this Sunday, Feb. 20, to square off against the Bald Eagles in an Eastern Wrestling League matchup. Match time is 3pm in the final regular season dual meet for the Golden Eagles.
 
            Sunday afternoon's match can be heard locally on WCCR-FM (92.7) in Clarion and on the internet at redzonemedia.com with Rich Herman calling the play by play.
 
Clarion has had a quality 2010-11 season under fifth year head coach Teague Moore. Clarion won the PSAC Team Title at Bloomsburg on December 4th, with Clarion scoring 125.5 points and having three individual champions in Fleming, Bekzod Abdurakhmonov at 165 and Alex Thomas at 197.
 
On December 29-30 the Golden Eagles finished 17th at the Midlands tournament with sophomore James Fleming taking fourth place at 157-pounds.
 
Clarion is 4-9 in dual meets defeating Cleveland State (30-10), Davidson (36-15), Princeton 25-21 and Edinboro 25-21, while key losses have been to #3 Virginia Tech (39-3), North Carolina (32-10), West Virginia (39-4),  #17 Kent State (44-6), Bloomsburg (19-15) and Pitt (32-9).
 
Clarion's lineup Friday will be: Thomas Gowing (3-15, Jr. Eugene, Or.) at 125, Trey Hicks (1-14, So. Amityville, N.Y.)at 133; Hunter McGraw (11-14, Fr. Crestwood) at 141, Anthony White (22-9, Fr. Philadelphia, Pa. North Catholic) at 149; #5 James Fleming (26-2, So. West Mifflin, West Mifflin) at 157, Bekzod Abdurakhmonov (23-7, Jr. Tashkent, Uzbekistan) at 165, Scott Joseph (11-18, Sr. Export, Kiski Area) or Steven Cressley (11-17, So. Punxsutawney) at 174, Alex Thomas (17-9, So. Seaford, De., Sussex Tech) at 197 and Quintas McCorkle 20-12, Jr. Alexandria, Va.) at heavyweight.
 
            Lock Haven under second year head coach Robbie Waller, has led the Bald Eagles to a 5-11 dual meet record and a 1-3 mark in the EWL. Lock Haven has a 21-18 win over Cleveland State, a 22-18 win over Olivet, and wins over Drexel (23-21) and George Mason (28-12). Losses have come against Edinboro (24-19), Pitt (33-6) and West Virginia (33-5) in the EWL. They also have losses to Penn State (48-0), and recently to Bucknell (26-13), Hofstra (26-6) and Illinois (34-7).
 
            Top wrestlers for Lock Haven include Nick Hyatt (15-8) at 125, John Trumbetti (13-7) at 133, Matt Bonson (20-2) at 141 and Harry Turner (23-13) at heavyweight.
 
            CLARION NOTES:  Clarion defeated Lock Haven last year 33-9 in clarion … The Golden Eagles are 19-24-2 all-time against Lock Haven and 14-18-2 in EWL matches in the series… Clarion will next compete at EWL's on March 6th in Bloomsburg.
