(Lock Haven, Pa.): Clarion posted falls from
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov and
Alex Thomas but it was not enough as the Golden Eagle wrestlers lost to Lock Haven on Sunday by a final score of 24-19.
Held at Thomas Fieldhouse, Clarion finished its season at 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the EWL. Lock Haven finished at 6-12 overall and 2-4 in the EWL.
Lock Haven jumped out to a 15-0 lead with four straight wins from 125 through 149. The last saw Clarion freshman
Anthony White lose 6-1 to Owen Wilkinson at 149.
Clarion mounted a comeback with
James Fleming posting a 14-1 major decision over Seth Creasy at 157, and then
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov pinned Dylan Caprio at 165 to pull the Eagles to within 15-10.
Lock Haven won the next two bouts, including Derek Caldwell's pin over
Scott Joseph at 184 which put LH ahead 24-10.
Clarion's
Alex Thomas pinned Jacob Bachman at 3:00 at 197, and
Quintas McCorkle posted a big 5-2 over Henry Turner at heavyweight to make the final 24-19.
CLARION NOTES: Fleming, ranked #5 in the country, upped his record to 27-2… Abdurakhmonov is now 28-8 at 165 – he was ahead 12-5 at the time of the fall… Thomas pushed his record to 18-9, while McCorkle is now 21-12… McCorkle had two, third period takedowns to break a 1-1 tie and win his match 5-2.
