MOORE RESIGNS CLARION POST - HEADING TO AMERICAN/SEARCH BEGINS IMMEDIATELY

Teague Moore Heading To American University

            Teague Moore, the head wrestling coach at Clarion University for five seasons (2007-2011), has officially resigned his post with the Golden Eagles to become the head coach at American University, it was announced by Athletic Director Dave Katis. The search for his successor will begin immediately.

            "We want to thank Teague and congratulate him on a job well done here in five years at Clarion," reflected Katis. "He had many accomplishments during his tenure, including leading Clarion to the PSAC team title in 2010-11. He also was presented with a tremendous opportunity to take over as head coach at American University, a program that finished fifth at Division I Nationals this year, and he has accepted that position. We thank him for his hard work and dedication to Clarion wrestling and wish him and his family every success in the future."

            The search process for a new head wrestling coach has already begun. "We have advertised the position, formed a search committee and will conduct a nationwide search for his replacement," said Katis. "Clarion has enjoyed a rich tradition in NCAA Division I Wrestling and we recognize the special place that tradition holds at the university, in our community and to our alumni and friends. We have every intention of continuing that tradition."

            Moore, 34, is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. and a 1995 graduate of North Allegheny High School. He was hired at Clarion on May 15, 2006 and was the Golden Eagles head coach for five seasons.
In 2011 Moore was named the PSAC "Coach of the Year" after leading the Golden Eagles to its first PSAC team title in 16 years. Sophomore Alex Thomas was named the "OW" at PSAC's. Clarion also finished fourth at EWL's with James Fleming voted as the "OW". Fleming and Bekzod Abdurakhmonov were NCAA National Qualifiers.

            "I'd like to thank former President Grunenwald and Dave Katis for giving me the opportunity to be the head coach at Clarion for five years," said Moore. " I'd also like to thank assistant coaches Ethan Bosch and Zach Sheaffer for their dedication and sacrifice, the wrestlers it has been my privilege to coach, the support of the Pin Club, and our alumni and fans for their help and support. This is a very special place for wrestling and I will never forget the friends we have made here in Clarion. This has been a great experience for me and I wish Clarion every success in the future."

            Moore led the Golden Eagles to an exciting season in 2009-10 placing third at the PSAC and EWL's, notching an 8-8 dual meet record and qualified two wrestlers to the D-I Nationals. Teague also led the Golden Eagles to an 8-14 dual meet record in 2009, with the Eagles placing third at PSAC's and seventh at EWL's. Clarion qualified two wrestlers to D-I Nationals.

            In 2008 Clarion was 10-15-1 overall, placed third at PSAC's, sixth at EWL's and had 1 NCAA Qualifier. In 2007, Moore's first year, the team was 7-13 overall, placed fourth at PSAC's, seventh at EWL's, and had one NCAA Qualifier.

            Moore came to Clarion from Harvard University, where he was an assistant coach for one season. He was an assistant at Oklahoma State in 2003-04, at Oklahoma in 2002-03 and at Pitt from 2000-01.

            Teague and wife Mary Alice have three daughters, Talen Josephina, Maryn Sophia and Madigan Jane, as well as a son Maximus Tobias.He has three brothers Tim, Terry and Ty, two sisters Colleen and Tina, and one brother Tom who is deceased.

            CLARION NOTES:
Clarion has a rich tradition in NCAA Division I Wrestling ... The program was started in the 1959-60 season under head coach Frank Lignelli ... Lignelli was the coach from 1960-66 with a record of 61-12... He passed the torch to Bob Bubb, who from 1966-92, put Clarion wrestling on the national stage... Bubb had a career record of 322-121-4 ... Bubb led Clarion to a 4th place team finish at D-I nationals in 1973, sixth in 1972 and 87 and eighth in 1992, his final season... Bubb coached 7 D-I champions, 3 college division champs, 27 All-Americans, 29 EWL winners and 68 PSAC champs ... Bubb will be remembered for two special athletes, namely Wade Schalles and Kurt Angle... Both were named to the NCAA/NWCA 75th Anniversary Team in March of 2005... Schalles had an amazing career record of 153-5-1, won 2 NCAA titles and posted an NCAA record 106 pins ... Angle also was a 2-time NCAA D-I Champion, posted a record of 116-10-2 and also won an Olympic Gold Medal in 1996 ... On June 4, 2005, Bubb was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma .... Jack Davis was Clarion's head coach from 1993-97 with a record of 43-34-5, Nellis (47-89-3; 1998-2006), and Moore (37-60-1)... Since the 1960 season Clarion has a dual meet record of 510-316-13 ... Clarion has 8 D-I National Champions, 43 All-Americans, 52 EWL winners and 111 PSAC Champions... That also includes 14 PSAC and 3 EWL team titles.

At North Allegheny High Teague was a three-time PIAA placewinner including a runner-up in 1993, a third place ending in 1994 and State Champion in 1995. He also was a three-time Pennsylvania State Freestyle Champion (1993-95), a three-time Junior National Freestyle Champion (1993, 94, 95) and National High School Champion in 1995.

At Oklahoma State under coach John Smith, Teague was a four-year starter at 118-pounds for the Cowboys. A 4-time NCAA Division I National Qualifier, he was a three-time Division I All-American (1997-99), including an NCAA National Championship in 1998. He pinned Michigan State's Dave Morgan in the finals to win his title. He also placed third at nationals in 1999 and 4th in 1997. Teague was a Big 12 Champion in 1997 and 98 and runner-up in 1999. He posted a career record of 118-25 and was 15th in career wins at Oklahoma State at that time.

Teague was inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in April of 2009.
