CLARION – The Clarion University men's and women's basketball teams return home after a two-game road trip to host California Wednesday night.

The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. Both contests can be heard on WCUC, 91.7 FM in Clarion as well as on the internet (men's game; women's game) Live stats will also be available (men's game; women's game).

The men's game features a pair of teams fighting for PSAC playoff positioning.

Clarion (12-6 overall, 8-4 PSAC West) is in a third-place tie in the PSAC West with Slippery Rock a game back of second-place Mercyhurst and two behind first-place IUP.

The Golden Eagles feature a balanced attack that sees four players scoring in double figures led by freshman Winfield Willis' 16.9 points per game. Willis, who has scored 304 points on the season – the sixth most by a Clarion freshman since 1970 – is the eighth-leading scorer and top freshman scorer in the PSAC.  Junior Calvin Edwards is adding 15.4 points per contest, while senior forwards Paul McQueen (14.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Bud Teer (11.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg) are also in double digits. Edwards is 12th in the PSAC in scoring with McQueen sitting 14th. McQueen is also eighth in rebounding, while Teer is fifth.

California (10-8, 7-5) enters the game in a fifth-place tie with Edinboro and Gannon a game behind Clarion and Slippery Rock.

The Vulcans have three players scoring in double digits led by Chad Tipton's 11.8 ppg. Keith Lowe is adding 10.6 ppg and Steve Swiech 10.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg.

In the women's game, Clarion enters with a record of 4-12 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC West, while California is 11-5 and 8-4.

The Golden Eagles are paced by freshman forward Hannah Heeter. Heeter is one of the top rookies in the PSAC West and has been named the PSAC West Freshman of the Week in three straight weeks. She is averaging 9.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and has recorded four straight double-doubles, the first Clarion player to do that since Jessica Albanese in 2008. Heeter, who is averaging 12.8 points and 13.2 rebounds per game in her last six contests, will try to become the first Clarion player with five consecutive double-doubles since Heather Cigich had nine straight in 2004. With back-to-back 15-rebound contests and three on the year, Heeter is just the eighth player in school history to have three or more 15-rebound games in a career.

Clarion also features a pair of players scoring in double figures led by Emma Fickel's 11.7 ppg, while Ann Deibert is adding 11.6 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Fickel, only a sophomore, is already eighth in school history with 129 made three-pointers.

California, meanwhile, is led by the PSAC's second-leading scorer in Amy Johns (17.9 ppg), who was named the PSAC West Player of the Week last week and is adding 7.0 rebounds per contest. Danielle Luckett (10.4 ppg) gives the Vulcans a pair of players in double digits.
