CLARION – It will be Hawaiian Night at Tippin Gym Wednesday Night when the Clarion University men's and women's basketball teams hosts PSAC West rival Slippery Rock.

All fans are encouraged to wear family-appropriate Hawaiian/Tropical attire and free leis will be given out. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

The last time the Golden Eagle women hit the floor at Tippin Gym they came away with an exciting 72-69 overtime win over California Jan. 25 that featured a 22-points, 25-rebound effort from freshman forward Hannah Heeter from nearby Cranberry. That performance, which including the second-most rebounds in school history and the most by a PSAC player in 11 years, helped Heeter earn her fourth straight PSAC West Freshman of the Week honor Monday.

Heeter is averaging a double-double on the year with 10.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for Clarion (5-13 overall, 4-10 PSAC-West). She is one of three players averaging in double digits joining Emma Fickel (10.9 ppg) and Ann Deibert (10.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg).

Slippery Rock (5-13, 2-12) is led by Danielle Smith's 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while Jasmine Cooper is adding 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.

Clarion has won 12 of the past 16 meetings against The Rock including seven of nine at Tippin Gym.

MEN'S GAME IS BATTLE FOR THIRD PLACE

The men's game is a battle for third place in the PSAC West with both Clarion (13-7 overall) and Slippery Rock (12-6) entering the game with identical 9-5 PSAC West records.

Clarion is coming off an 86-79 win at Edinboro Saturday that saw freshman guard Winfield Willis record his sixth 20-point game of the year with 20 tallies. Willis is the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles at 16.5 points per game, and his 330 points are the fourth most by a freshman at Clarion since 1970.

Paul McQueen is adding 15.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, and the senior forward enters the Slippery Rock game needing just 11 points to reach 1,000 in his career. He recorded his 600th career rebound at Edinboro when he had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Also in double digits for the Golden Eagles are Calvin Edwards (15.3 ppg) and Bud Teer (11.2 ppg, 8.1 rpg).

Slippery Rock is paced by Devin Taylor's 13.3 points and PSAC-leading 10.8 rebounds per game. Tabari Perry is adding 10.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.

After Wednesday, both Clarion teams are on the road for two games starting with IUP Saturday and Mercyhurst Feb. 8 before returning home to face Gannon at 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men) Feb. 11. That will be the start of a three-game home stand for the Golden Eagles, the final homestand of the season.
