CLARION DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO GANNON.

Box Score CLARION, Pa – The Clarion University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Gannon Friday night at Tippin Gymnasium.

Gannon (18-4 overall, 10-2 PSAC West) won a tight first set 25-20 before taking sets two and three 25-11 and 25-18 respectively.

Carlie Bieranowski led the Golden Eagles with eight kills and seven digs.  Emily Stewart chipped in with eight kills and four digs. Morgan Seybold added nine digs, while Laura Subject set up the offense with 13 set assists.

In the first set, the score was tied at 18-18 before Gannon went on a 7-2 run to end the first set. 

In the second set, Gannon used a 12-2 run to close out the second set 25-11.

“I give Gannon a lot of credit,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said. “We struggled to deal with adversity and they outplayed us tonight. “

In the third set, the score remained within one at 16-15 before Gannon used a 9-3 run to close out the set 25-18, which gave them the victory.

“The Gannon coaches did a good job of scouting Webb,” said Mills.  “They were able to keep the ball in the middle and stayed consistent.”

With the loss, Clarion falls to 20-5 overall, 10-2 PSAC West. The Golden Eagles have won at least 20 matches for the 10th time in the last 12 seasons and for the 19th time in school history.

“A loss this late in the season is a welcome back to reality for us,” said Mills.  “We have to forget about it and come back tomorrow afternoon to play another match.”

The Golden Eagles return to action at 1 p.m. tomorrow when they will host Edinboro.

 
Notes:

Clarion drops to a record of 20-5 which is tied for the fourth-best start in school history (2009, 2004, and 2003).

Entering tonight, Rebecca Webb was ranked 17th in the nation in hitting percentage at .374, which is the sixth best mark in the season in school history.  Her .287 career mark ranks 3rd in school history.
