SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Behind13 kills from
Hannah Heeter, the Clarion University women's volleyball team swept past Slippery Rock 3-0 Tuesday night in PSAC West road action.
The Golden Eagles used runs of 7-0 and 6-1 in the first set to get a 25-21 win and then took the second set 25-22 before using an 8-1 run late in the third set to win it 25-19.
Carlie Bieranowski added 10 kills and four digs and
Rebecca Webb seven kills for Clarion (22-5 overall, 12-2 PSAC West).
Laura Subject ran the offense with 40 set assists while adding 10 digs, and
Rebecca Ferragonio paced the defense with 21 digs.
In the first set, the Golden Eagles jumped out to leads of 7-0 and 12-4 before Slippery Rock battled back to tie the set at 15. The set was still tied at 19 before a 6-1 Clarion run gave the set to the Golden Eagles.
The second set was knotted at 18 before a pair of Heeter kills sparked Clarion to a 5-2 spurt that gave the Golden Eagles a 23-20 lead that eventually turned into the victory.
Then in the third set, Clarion fell behind 11-9 before using the 8-1 run to take control.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Mercyhurst before hosting Wheeling Jesuit at 4 p.m. Saturday.
NOTES – With the 40 set assists, Subject become the ninth different player in school history with 900 in a season (921). It marks the 15
th time in school history a player has had 900 set assists in a year. Subject also topped 1,000 set assists in her career (1,032). She is the 12
th player in school history to accomplish that feat … Webb is six kills shy of becoming the 15
th player in school history with 900. She is 15
th all-time at Clarion with 894 kills … Clarion has won 20 matches for the 10
th time in 12 years and for the 19
th time in school history.
