Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Defending PSAC champion East Stroudsburg broke open a five-point game at halftime by outscoring visiting Clarion by 19 points in the second half on its way to a 75-51 PSAC crossover victory over the Golden Eagles Wednesday night.
Clarion (3-5 overall, 2-3 PSAC West), fresh off a win Tuesday at Kutztown, played a strong first half and trailed the Warriors by five, 33-28, at the break and closed to within a point, 33-32, early in the second half.
But East Stroudsburg (7-2, 4-1 PSAC East) went on a 38-13 run that started with a 27-7 spurt to put the thoughts of an upset to rest.
Marques Jones led Clarion with a season-high 18 points with 13 of them going in the first half. He hit 5 of 10 shots including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc but also had seven turnovers. He was the only Golden Eagle in double digits, although
Leonard Patterson chipped in seven points and six rebounds.
Whis Grant paced East Stroudsburg with 18 points, Matt Tobin added 14 points and four assists and Terrance King 13 points.
Clarion trailed 27-19 with just under five minutes left in the first half before going on a 14-6 run that stretched into the second half to get within the single point. Jones had seven points during the run with
Evan Battle adding four, the first four points of the second half.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4 when they host West Chester.
NOTES – Jones had 17 points in Clarion's win over Kutztown Tuesday giving him 35 points in the pair of crossover games.
