(CLARION, PA.): Clarion received pins from
Tyler Bedelyon (141),
Bekzod Abdurakhmonov (165),
Nick Milano (174),
Alex Thomas (197) and
Quintas McCorkle (285), plus a technical fall from
James Fleming (157) as the Golden Eagles won a 45-5 decision over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division I Wrestling.
Held at Clarion's Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium, the Golden Eagles raised their record to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the EWL, while Cleveland State dropped to 6-13 overall and 0-5 in the EWL.
Cleveland State was ahead 3-0 heading to 133-pounds when junior
Joe Waltko scored a 19-6 major decision over Nick Flannery to give Clarion the lead for good (4-3). Waltko had three takedowns and three near falls to win his match.
At 141-pounds Eagles sophomore
Tyler Bedelyon used a cradle to pin Josh Palivoda at 3:59 to give Clarion a 10-3 advantage.
After CSU's Lawrence Cavello posted an 8-7 win over
Cameron Moran at 149, the Eagles exploded for six straight victories to seal the victory.
James Fleming used one takedown, a reversal and four near falls to post a 17-0 technical fall over Brandon Sommers at 157. Fleming, ranked #4 in the nation at 157, raised his season record to 20-2.
Clarion's
Bekzod Abudruakhmonov, ranked 5
th in the nation, cradled and pinned Corey Carlo at 2:46 to push the Eagle lead to 21-6. Bekzod is now 24-4 on the season.
Sophomore
Nick Milano scored a fall using an arm bar at 2:22 against Aric Thurn at 174-pounds, then junior
Steven Cressley won by disqualification over Corbin Boone at 184 to give Clarion a 33-5 lead after a team point was deducted from CSU.
The Golden Eagles finished strong when
Alex Thomas pinned Nick Anthony at 4:59 at 197-pounds, and then
Quintas McCorkle pinned Rock Davis at 4:51 at 285-pounds to make the final 45-5.
