CLARION – Clarion University's Tippin Gym will be the site of a PSAC West men's and women's doubleheader Saturday night when the Golden Eagles host Gannon.

The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. Money will be collected throughout both games to be donated to The Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital. It is also Alumnae Day for the women's basketball team.

The men's game is an important PSAC West showdown, as Clarion (14-9 overall, 10-7 PSAC West) is currently in a fourth-place tie with California for the fourth-and-final PSAC playoff spot awarded to the PSAC West. Both teams are a game ahead of Edinboro and Gannon (11-10, 9-8) and one game back of Slippery Rock in a very tight race.

With four players averaging in double figures, Clarion has a balanced attack on offense.

Freshman Winfield Willis is the leading scorer, and eighth-leading scorer in the PSAC, at 16.7 points per game. His 385 points are the second-most by a rookie in school history.

Paul McQueen is adding 15.0 ppg and 7.4 rpg and recently went over the 1,000-point mark, while Calvin Edwards chips in 14.2 ppg and Bud Teer 11.2 ppg and 8.6 rpg.

Gannon also has four players averaging in double digits paced by Darrell Blanton's 18.5 ppg. Adam Blazek is adding 14.4, while Oscar Macias is at 10.3 and Stephen Battle at 10.2.

The Golden Knights won the first meeting between the teams this year 81-63 Jan. 21 at Gannon.

Clarion's women's team (6-15 overall, 5-12 PSAC West) enters the game having won two straight games at home, while Gannon (17-4, 14-3) saw a six-game win streak end at Edinboro Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles are led by freshman forward Hannah Heeter who is averaging a double-double with 11.6 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. She is closing in on the Top Five in school history in freshmen rebounding and currently has 203 rebounds on the year. She needs 10 to match Sharon Henry for fifth and five to tie Lisa Zitalone for sixth. Heeter has been named the PSAC West Freshman of the Week five straight weeks and is second in the PSAC in both rebounding and shooting (57.6 percent).

Joining Heeter in double-figure scoring are Emma Fickel and Ann Deibert.

Fickel is averaging 10.7 points per game and has hit 48 three-pointers giving her 137 in two years, the sixth-best mark in school history. With two more treys, Fickel will become the first Golden Eagles to have back-to-back seasons of 50 or more three-pointers since Amelia Harris in 2004 and 2005.

Deibert is adding 10 points and six rebounds per game, while Raven Jones is handing out five assists per contest, the fourth-best mark in the PSAC, to go with 8.8 points per game.
Gannon is paced by Jennifer Papich's 15.5 ppg, while Caitlyn Lowe is scoring 11.3 ppg.

The Lady Knights won the first game this season 72-58.

The doubleheader is a start of a three-game homestand for both Clarion teams. The final three regular-season home games for the Golden Eagles. Both squads will host Lock Haven Wednesday and Edinboro Feb. 18.
