Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Bloomsburg scored two goals in a span of just under eight minutes in the first half after an apparent opening goal by Clarion had been waved off, as the visiting Huskies knocked off the Golden Eagles 2-0 in PSAC action Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Clarion (1-6-2 overall, 1-5-0 PSAC) appeared to take a 1-0 lead when
Katie Chambers knocked in a ball off a corner kick by
Casey Harsch in the 12
th minute. But the Golden Eagles were whistled for knocking over the Bloomsburg goalie, and the goal was waved off.
“That's a tough call,” Clarion head coach Rob Eaton said. “But that happens in soccer. There is no replay, there is no fourth official. We aren't getting any breaks right now. That would have been a break.”
The no-goal seemed to switch the momentum of the contest, and Bloomsburg (4-4-0, 2-3-0) quickly took advantage getting on the board in the 22
nd minute when Brooke Mohney took a pass from Caroline Mountney and beat Clarion keeper
Laura Saussol to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
“Right after our goal is called back, they suddenly turn around and score,” Eaton said. “It's just not breaking our way right now.”
Bloomsburg made it 2-0 less than eight minutes later when Tara Huber beat Saussol off a feed from Caitlin Raynes.
The Huskies outshot Clarion 14-5 in the first half, but Clarion settled down in the second half and played even with Bloomsburg with the Golden Eagles getting nine shots to the Huskies 11.
Despite allowing the two goals, Saussol played well making 13 saves in the losing effort, while
Alyssa Katz had four shots for the Golden Eagles, two on net. Chambers, who left the game in the first half with an injury, and Harsch each had two shots with one going on net for each player.
Huber was dominant for Bloomsburg with nine shots, six on goal, and the marker. Danielle Fiorelli got the win in net making six saves.
Clarion will look to rebound Saturday when it hosts East Stroudsburg, the 16
th ranked team in the nation, at Noon at Memorial Stadium.
