CLARION FALLS AT NO. 16 IUP 71-55

Mike Kromka had 11 points, 6 rebounds for Clarion

Box Score INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion Pittsburgh connection of Aaron Johnson and Mike Kromka combined to score 23 points, but the Golden Eagles fell 71-55 at No. 16 IUP Saturday night.
 
Johnson had a team-high 12 points for the Golden Eagles (4-11 overall, 2-9 PSAC West) while Kromka added 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block.
 
But IUP countered with four players in double figures led by 19 points from Anthony Wells. Marcel Souberbielle added 13 points with Mathis Keita chipping in 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists and 7-foot-3 Blake Vedder scoring 10 points to go with four boards, three assists and two blocks.
 
Clarion, which trailed 30-19, at halftime, was within seven points, 47-40, after a Johnson with just over 11 minutes to play. The Golden Eagles then got a big blocked shot by Calvin Edwards a minute later. But Clarion turned the ball over, and Anthony Wells hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get the lead back into double digits where it stayed the rest of the game.
 
The Golden Eagles shot just 32.7 percent (17 of 52) from the field and turned the ball over 22 times leading to 28 IUP points, as the Crimson Hawks outscored Clarion 28-8 off turnovers.
 
IUP also shot 50.9 percent (28 of 55) for the game including 57.1 percent (16 of 28) in the second half.
 
Clarion returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Lock Haven.
