FLEMING GETS 114TH CAREER WIN/EAGLES LOST AT KENT

#4 James Fleming - Wins 114th Career Bout

 
                (Kent, Ohio):  Clarion senior James Fleming (Sr. West Mifflin) won his 114th career match, and teammates Devin Cook (Jr. Bedford) and Tyler Bedelyon (Jr. Lewistown) also notched wins, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles lost a 29-10 decision to #28 ranked Kent State in NCAA Division I Wrestling action on Sunday.
 
                Held at the M.A.C. Center at Kent State, Clarion drops to a season record of 2-6, while Kent State upped its record to 6-3.
 
                Down by a 9-0 team score after the first two bouts, the Golden Eagles rallied to take a 10-9 team lead on consecutive wins from Devin Cook  at 141, Tyler Bedelyon at 149 and James Fleming at 157.
 
                Cook decisioned Luke Kern 2-0 at 141-pounds. Cook's takedown about midway through the first period held up to make him 8-7 on the season.
 
                Bedelyon held on for a 7-5 win over Nick Carr at 149. Down 2-1 in the first period, Bedelyon took Carr down and put him immediately to his back with a half-nelson for a four point move and a 5-1 lead. A second and third period escape provided enough points for a 7-5 victory, giving the Eagle junior a season record of 14-9.
 
                Fleming, ranked #4 in the nation at 157-pounds, posted a 9-0 major decision over Tommy Sasfy at 157. Fleming opened the first period with a takedown, then tilted Sasfy for a three point near fall and a 5-0 first period advantage. Fleming had a two-point near fall in the second, an escape in the third and riding time for his 9-0 win. Fleming is now 22-2 this season and won his 114th career match moving into 13th place on the all-time Eagle win list. He passed former greats Ken Nellis (1982-86 – 113-28-5) and Paul Clark (1984-87 – 113-26-1).
 
                Kent finished winning the final five bouts to win 29-10. Kent was paced by #1 ranked and 2011 NCAA  Division I National Champion Dustin Kilgore who pinned Justin Ortega at 2:09 at 197-pounds, and #16 ranked Casey Newburg won by technical fall over Steven Cressley 21-5 at 6:42.
 
                Clarion will visit Lock Haven on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
