GOLDEN EAGLES FLY PAST LOCK HAVEN 80-62

Leonard Patterson had 14 points and a Clarion season-high 5 steals in the victory

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Mike Kromka had 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists and was one of four Clarion University men's basketball players to score in double figures, as the Golden Eagles rolled past visiting Lock Haven 80-62 Wednesday night at Tippin Gym.
 
Clarion (5-11 overall, 3-9 PSAC West) played its best game of the year shooting a season-high 50 percent (34 of 68) while scoring the most points this season vs. an NCAA Division II opponent and the second most on the year overall.
 
Freshman Aaron Johnson added 16 points, seven rebounds, an assist and a block and shot 6 of 6 from the field including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc, while Leonard Patterson added 14 points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists and Anthony Baker had 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals vs. his former team.
 
Wali Hepburn led all scorers with 26 points for Lock Haven (5-10, 3-9), which lost for the 10th straight time to Clarion at Tippin Gym and for the 21st time in the last 23 games at Tippin. Nate Walters added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench for the Bald Eagles.
 
Clarion led 38-28 at halftime thanks to a half-ending 17-4 run that featured seven points from Patterson and four each from Kromka and Corey Bellovich.  
 
The Golden Eagles then started the second half with a 17-5 run that extended the overall spurt to 34-9. Johnson had seven points at the start of the half with Marques Jones scoring six of his eight on a pair of three-pointers to help Clarion extend the lead to 22, 5-33, with 13:59 to play.
 
From that point on, Clarion's lead was never fewer than 17 and was as many as 24.
 
Clarion returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Gannon on the backend of a men's and women's doubleheader. Prior to the doubleheader (starting at 1:45 p.m.) the Keystone and Clarion fifth- and sixth-grade basketball teams will play games and then have a meet-and-greet with the Golden Eagle men's team before staying for the doubleheader.
 
NOTES – Patterson's five steals were the most by a Golden Eagle this season … Kromka's double-double was the sixth of the season for the junior and the ninth of his career … Johnson recorded his second straight double-digit game and the fourth of his short eight-game career … Clarion has won back-to-back home games for the second time this season and will look for its first winning streak of the year Saturday vs. Gannon … The victory was the 395th win at Clarion for 25th-year head coach Ron Righter, who is 395-271 at Clarion and 419-295 in 27 years as a head coach.
