Julian Howsare (Altoona) contributed 7 tackles and 1 sack but #17 ranked West Chester proved too strong as the Golden Rams defeat the Golden Eagles 41-14 on Saturday afternoon in an NCAA D-II and PSAC contest.
The season finale for both teams, Clarion finished the year with a record of 4-7 while West Chester, ranked #17 in the latest AFCA Poll and #4 in the NCAA Super Region 1 poll, ends the regular season with a mark of 10-1.
Held at John A. Farrell Stadium, West Chester's Rondell White rushed for 123 yards and 2 td's, and qb Sean McCartney passed for 316 yards and 3 td's to lead the Rams.
West Chester took a 3-0 lead at 11:32 when Shawn Leo booted a 38-yard field goal.
On its next possession West Chester drove 48 yards in 9 plays and went ahead 10-0 on a 9-yard pass from McCartney to Tim Brown.
Early in the second quarter Rondell White scored on a 2-yard run at 9:58 to put the Rams in front 17-0, then made it 20-0 before halftime when Leo booted a 21-yard field goal.
The Golden Eagles drove to the West Chester 29 and 17 yard lines in the first half, but the Eagles ended those drives turning the ball over on downs.
WC's McCartney hit Shawn Driggins with a 2-yard td pass at 11:12 of the third quarter to put the Rams in front 27-0.
On Clarion's next possession the Golden Eagles attempted a 48-yard field goal by
Phil Esposito, but the attempt was blocked and recovered by WC at the Ram 10.
Clarion drove 54-yards only 5 plays to reach paydirt on its next possession. QB
Darelle Carson hit
Caleb Mancini for 21 yards to the Ram 33. Thomas rushed for 2 yards, and
Travis Day bolted for 24 to the Ram 7. After Day lost a yard,
Chris Liberto rushed for 8 yards and a td t give Clarion its first td at 3:01 of the third quarter. Clarion went for two points and Carson hit
Mike Deitrick for the conversion and a 27-8 WC lead.
The Rams scored in the fourth when Erick Brundidge caught a 7 yard pass from McCartney at 13:41 to make it 34-8.
Clarion came back and scored when the Eagles went 82 yards in 9 plays to reach the endzone. Thomas capped the drive with a 10-yard td run at 10:01 and the WC led 34-14.
The rams finished the scoring when White scored on a 4-yard run at 6:58 to make the final score West Chester 41 Clarion 14.
Clarion had 249 yards of total offense including 163 rushing and 86 passing.
Carson completed 4 of 16 passes for 86 yards, while also running for 29 yards on 15 tries. Thomas had 96 yards and 1 td on 24 attempts, while Day had 30 yards on 4 carries and Liberto 1 carry for 8 yards and a td.

Mike Zak led the team with 9 tackles, while
Julian Howsare had 7 tackles and a sack for -6 yards. Also posting tfl's were

West Chester had 502 yards of offense including 186 rushing and 316 passing.
Rondell White had 123 yards and 2 td's on 27 carries, plus caught 4 passes for 34 yards. QB McCartney completed 23 of 35 aerials for 316 yards and 3 td's. Erick Brundidge caught 5 passes for 87 yards and 1 td.
