WRESTLERS DEFEAT LOCK HAVEN 18-16

                (Lock Haven, Pa.): Clarion received a technical fall from James Fleming (Sr. West Mifflin) at 165 and a major decision from Ryan Darch (So. Batavia, N.Y.) at 174 to lead the way for the Golden Eagles to defeat Lock Haven 18-16 on Friday night in NCAA  Division I wrestling.
 
                Held at Thomas Fieldhouse, Clarion raised its record to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the EWL, while Lock Haven dropped to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the EWL.
 
                Clarion posted five wins in the ten bouts on Friday night, but bonus points won the match for the Golden Eagles.
 
                Clarion took a 3-0 lead when freshman Tyler Fraley (Freehold, N.J.) upset LH's Bobby Rehm at 125 by an 11-6 margin. Fraley had two first period takedowns for a 5-3 lead, and finished strong with two takedowns in the third period for the win. Rehm, formerly a top 20 ranked wrestler, is currently ranked 22nd.
 
                Lock Haven bounced back for three consecutive wins when Cody Wheeler decisioned Joe Waltko 5-3 at 133, #19 Danny Neff decisioned Sam Sherlock 6-4 at 141 and Mac Maldarelli decisioned Devin Cook 6-3 at 149 to lead 9-3.
 
                Clarion came back to take a 15-9 lead with key wins from Tyler Bedelyon (Jr. Lewistown) at 157, James Fleming at 165 and Ryan Darch at 174. Moving Bedelyon and Fleming up a weight came from head coach Troy Letters, and the move helped turn the Eagles into a winner.
 
                Bedelyon won a 7-2 decision over Aaron Fry at 157, using a first and second period takedown for the win.
 
                Fleming, ranked #4 in the nation at 157, moved up to 165 and posted a 15-0 technical fall over Aaron McKinney. Fleming, who led 2-0 after the first, chose top position in the second and posted two, three-point near falls and a two pointer to take a commanding 10-0 lead. His final tilt, which came with about 10-seconds left in the match, gave the Eagle a 15-0 win and a 5-point team win to put Clarion back in front to stay 11-9.
 
                Darch notched a 10-2 major decision over Travis Moyer to push the lead to 15-9. Leading 5-0 in the third, Darch posted two key takedowns for the major decision.
 
                Steven Cressley lost a 22-9 major decision to Fred Garcia at 184, setting up the 197-bout as the key for Friday night's win. Clarion's Justin Ortega used riding time for a 2-1 win over Phil Sprenkle to give the Eagles an 18-13 lead.
 
                Clarion heavyweight Phil Catrucco gave up a takedown with 20 seconds remaining to lose a 4-2 decision to Harry Turner, but Clarion had the team win 18-16.
 
                Clarion hosts #14 ranked Bloomsburg on Sunday at W.S. Tippin Gym at 2pm.
 
                CLARION NOTES: Clarion's series record moves to 21-25-2 overall and a 16-19-2 mark in EWL matches … Fleming upped is season record to 23-2 and a career record of 115-18 – 13th on the all-time win list at Clarion.  Kurt Angle, Clarion's former 2-time NCAA Champion and 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist is next up on the win list for Fleming. Angle was 116-10-2 from 1988-92 and currently is in 12th placed all-time.
