GOLDEN EAGLES DROP DECISION TO SLIPPERY ROCK

Aaron Johnson had 13 points to lead Clarion

Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock outscored Clarion by 14 in the second half to break open a close game at the half and get a 69-49 win over the visiting Golden Eagles in PSAC West men's basketball action Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.
 
Clarion (5-15 overall, 3-13 PSAC West) trailed by just six, 33-27, at halftime before Slippery Rock started the second half on a 13-2 run that basically put the game away.
 
Aaron Johnson led Clarion with 13 points, three rebounds and two steals off the bench, while Evan Battle had 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block and Leonard Patterson 10 points, two rebounds and three assists.
 
Darious Clark led four Slippery Rock players in double digits with 18 points while adding seven rebounds. Tabari Perry chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds, while Aubin Reeves had 11 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals and former IUP player Gerald Brooks had 11 points and six rebounds off the pine.
 
Clarion played a strong first half using five 3-pointers in the half to keep the game close. The Golden Eagles held a 27-26 lead with 4:13 left in the half before a 7-0 Slippery Rock spurt gave The Rock the six-point halftime lead.
 
Slippery Rock then used the momentum gained at the end of the first half at the start of the second half to move the lead into double digits for good. The Rock got its lead to as many as 29, 69-40, late in the game before a late Clarion run got the Golden Eagles back within 20 at the end.
 
Clarion returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts IUP.
