CLARION WRESTLERS 1-3 AT PITT DUALS
 
                (Pittsburgh, Pa.):  Clarion defeated Davidson 31-15 in the opening match, but lost the final three duals to post a 1-3 record on Sunday in NCAA Division I Wrestling at the Pitt Duals.
 
                Hosted at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse, the Golden Eagles defeated Davidson 31-15 in the opener, lost to North Carolina State 30-6, lost to Duke 28-9 and lost to North Carolina 32-4. Clarion's dual meet record is now 5-9.
 
                Evan Daley posted a record of 2-0 on the day to lead the team, while Sam Sherlock (133) and Austin Matthews (157) were 2-2 on the day, and Jonathan Mele (125) was 1-0.
 
                Clarion won seven bouts in defeating Davidson 31-15. Jonathan Mele won a 14-4 major decision over Phil Elias at 125 to put Clarion ahead 4-0.
 
                Eagle captain Tyler Bedelyon pinned James McCord at 2:32 at 141 pounds and Clarion led 10-3. After #18 ranked Justin Arthur was pinned at 149, Austin Matthews came right back with a 15-0 technical fall over Nick Pappaliou at 4:56 and the Eagles led 15-9.
 
                Michael Pavasko won a 15-3 major at 165, and Ryan Darch won a 12-4 major at 174 to put the Eagles in front 23-9.
 
                Clarion clinched victory when Brandon Contreras won a 10-2 major decision at 197, then finished the dual with a win when Evan Daley won a 9-1 major at 285.
 
                Clarion lost 30-6 to North Carolina State – winning two bouts. Sam Sherlock defeated Chris Wilkes 6-3 at 133, and Dustin Conti  decisioned Shayne Brady 8-3 at 184. #17 ranked Austin Matthews lost a tough 7-5 overtime decision to Thomas Gantt at 157, and Justin Arthur lost an 8-2 decision to Brian Hamann.
 
                The Golden Eagles lost 289 to Duke – with Sam Sherlock winning 8-4 at 133, Justin Arthur winning 6-2 over Connor Bass at 149 and Evan Daley winning 9-5 over Brian Self at 285.
 
                In the final dual of the day, Clarion lost a 32-4 decision to North Carolina.
 
                Austin Matthews looked sharp in his 13-2 major decision over Jacob Crawford at 157, which was he lone Clarion victory.
 
                Clarion returns to action on Saturday, January 18 when the Golden Eagles travel to Bucknell to take on Brown and Bucknell.
