MILLER; JONES EACH SCORE 20; MEN'S BBALL FALLS TO EDINBORO

DeMarius Miller had a game-high 26 points for the Golden Eagles

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – DeMarius Miller and Marques Jones combined to score 46 points, and Clarion shot a season-best 48.1 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough to shake off a late first-half funk against Edinboro, which beat the Golden Eagles 81-74 at Tippin Gym Saturday night.

Clarion (3-13 overall, 1-7 PSAC West) trailed by just two, 27-25, with 6:18 left in the first half before Edinboro went on a half-ending 17-0 run to take a 44-27 halftime lead.

The Golden Eagles fought back strong in the second half using a 19-6 run in the first eight minutes of the half to get back within four, 50-46. Jones had nine points during the stretch.

Edinboro righted the ship some of the next three minutes getting the lead back to 12, 58-46, before Clarion answered with a 7-0 spurt behind four points from Mike Kromka, who had 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shot, to get back within five, 58-53, with 8:02 left.

But the Fighting Scots once again had the answer, this time in the form of a 9-4 spurt that put the lead back to double digits, 67-57, on a 3-pointer by Jonny Marsh with just over five minutes left.

Clarion never went away completely getting back within six on a couple of occasions, the latest being with 22 seconds to play, 78-72, but Edinboro hit just enough free throws (10 of 16) in the final 1:19 to secure the victory.

Jonathan Logan led the Fighting Scots (8-10, 1-7) with 18 points and six rebounds, while Bryan Theriot had 17 points and seven rebounds. Marsh chipped in with 11 points, while Xavier Churnac had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Clarion returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Slippery Rock.

NOTES – It was Miller's fifth 20-point game of the season, while Jones recorded 20 for the first time this year. It marked the first time this year the Golden Eagles have had two players score at least 20 points in the same game and the first time since Jan. 7, 2012, that it has happened for the Golden Eagles (Winfield Willis 31 points; Paul McQueen 23 points).
