GOLDEN EAGLE WRESTLERS HOST LH FRIDAY/GEORGE MASON SATURDAY
The 2014 Clarion University wrestling team returns to Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on Friday Jan. 31 and Saturday Feb. 1 to host Lock Haven and George Mason in Eastern Wrestling League competition. Friday's night's matchup against LHU will start at 7pm, with the George Mason dual scheduled for a 2pm whistle.
The Clarion – Lock Haven match can be heard live on the radio on WWCH-Radio (1300AM), as well as on the internet at redzonemedia.com. the Saturday dual will air on WCCR-FM, 92.7 in Clarion and on redzone.
Rich Herman and John Stroup will be calling the action.
Clarion, under second year head coach
Troy Letters, enters the dual meet with a 6-10 overall record and an 0-2 EWL record. The extremely young Golden Eagles, who have six freshmen in their lineup, opened the season with a 2-2 mark at the Eastern Michigan duals having defeated Campbellsville (34-3) and Tiffin (43-6), while losing to Northern Illinois (21-15) and EMU 26-15. The home dual season opened on Nov. 22
nd with a 30-12 loss to Rutgers, then at the Journeyman Northeast Duals Clarion lost a 21-13 decision to #11 Virginia and rebounded for wins against Columbia (20-16) and Buffalo (34-7). On December 7
th Clarion was fourth at the PSAC Championships, while on December 15 Clarion lost the EWL opener to Edinboro (40-3) and on Dec. 21 lost to #25 Rider (21-16). On Jan. 12 Clarion as 1-3 at the Pitt duals, defeating Davidson 31-15 and losing to North Carolina State (30-6), Duke (28-9) and North Carolina (32-4), while on Jan. 18 Clarion defeated Brown (24-16) and lost to Bucknell (24-18).

Lock Haven, led by first year head coach Scott Moore, has the Bald Eagles at 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the EWL. The Bald Eagles have wins over Shippensburg (42-3) and Bucknell (19-13). Key losses are to Pitt (27-14), Rider (23-12), Penn State (34-6), Bloomsburg (19-16), WVU (18-12) and Edinboro (37-3). The Bald Eagle lineup will have Kaleb LeMaire (15-16) at 125, Cody Wheeler (17-9) at 133, Dan Neff (21-7) at 141, Mac Maldarelli (25-12) at 149, Billy Randt (14-13) at 157, Jake Kemerer (18-6) at 165, Dylan Caprio (14-12) at 174, Fred Garcia (19-6) at 184, Phil Sprenkle at 197 and Cody Mason (11-13) at 285.
George Mason enters Saturday's dual with a 6-10 overall record under third year head coach Joe Russell. Important wins have come against Davidson (28-16), Sacred Heart (34-7), VMI (22-12) and Franklin & Marshall (24-12). Key losses have come against Ohio state (29-6), Illinois (44-0), Binghamton (21-14), Rutgers (29-10), Rider (25-16) and Bucknell (27-9). The GM lineup will have Bill Prochniewski (7-16) at 125, Vince rodriguez (12-7) at 133, Sahid Kargbo (15-10) at 141, Shohei Takagi (11-8) or Ryan Hunsberger (14-12) at 149, Greg Flournoy (15-9) at 157, Ryan Forrest (5-10) at 165, Zach Martinez (11-9) at 174, Ryan Hembury (11-10) at 184, Matt Meadows (12-12) at 197 and Jake Kettler (11-9) at 285.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion is 21-25-2 all-time against LHU, and 16-19-2 in EWL action … Clarion won 18-16 at Lock Haven last year … This will be the first meeting ever between Clarion and George Mason.
