Box Score EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion University men's basketball team ran into a buzz saw Saturday afternoon dropping a 101-69 decision at unbeaten East Stroudsburg.
The homestanding Warriors (13-0) used a 26-8 run that started with 2:37 left in the first half and ended four minutes into the second half to break open a tie game, 25-25, and get the easy victory.
Clarion (2-8) was solid through the game's first 17 ½ minutes playing toe-to-toe with East Stroudsburg thanks to eight points from
DeMarius Miller and four each from
Anthony Baker and
Mike Kromka.
But things started to tilt against the Golden Eagles in the final 2 ½ minutes of the first half, as East Stroudsburg ended the half on a 15-4 run paced by five points from Whis Grant to take an 11-point lead, 40-29, at the break.
Things didn't get any better for Clarion at the start of the second 20 minutes, as the Warriors scored 11 of the half's first 15 points to get the lead to 18, 51-33 with 16:12 to play. The Golden Eagles never got closer than 15 the rest of the way, and a 19-8 East Stroudsburg spurt after that put the game away.
Mike Kromka was one of the bright spots for the Golden Eagles recording his third straight double-double, his fourth of the season and the 13
th of his career with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Miller led Clarion with 17 points, his seventh straight double-digit performance, while
Aaron Johnson tied his season high with 12 points and freshman
BJ Andrews added 10. Johnson also had six rebounds for Clarion, while Kromka chipped in with a pair of blocks and four helpers and Andrews six assists.
Will Brown led East Stroudsburg with 17 points, while Jamal Nwaniemeka added 13 and Matt Tobin and Zechariah Runkle nine each. Clarion held Grant, East Stroudsburg's leading scorer at 16.7 points per game to eight.
Clarion returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts West Chester.
