VOLLEYBALL ROLLS TO 10TH STRAIGHT WIN, 3-0 AT IUP

INDIANA, Pa. - Another strong team effort resulted in the 10th consecutive win for the Clarion University women's volleyball team, which defeated IUP 3-0 on the opponent's home court Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles, who are in first place in the PSAC West, won by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21 to move to 26-2 overall and 17-1 in Western Division play this season. It is the second straight year Clarion has gained 26 wins and the ninth time in school history including the fifth time under eighth-year head coach Jennifer Mills.

Four Clarion hitters had at least eight kills led by 11 from Abbey Cox, who hit .320 (11 kills, 3 errors, 25 attempts). Gabrielle Olson (.389) and Mackenzie Biggs (.333) also hit over .300 for the Golden Eagles, who hit .265 as a team (44-14-113).

Olson had eight kills with just one error on 18 attempts, while Biggs also had eight kills with three errors on 15 attempts.

Also for Clarion, Taylor Braunagel had nine kills, while Catherine Ferragonio added six kills and 14 digs.

Laura Subject, on the day she was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week, had 40 set assists, five digs and two kills, while Morgan Seybold had 27 digs and Carlie Bieranowski nine digs.

Lauren Hester paced IUP (9-16, 5-13) with 11 kills and six digs. Elizabeth Sova added 10 kills, Lindsay Moeller had 21 set assists and Joie Hrapla chipped in 17 digs.

IUP grabbed an early 12-7 lead in the first set before Clarion ended the set on a 18-5 run led by three Braunagel and two Cox kills.

In the second set, the Golden Eagles, behind two Olson kills, took a 6-1 lead and never looked back.

Then in the third set, IUP led 13-12 before a 9-2 run by Clarion that saw Subject and Cox both record a pair of kills.

Clarion returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Mercyhurst and then faces Gannon at 2 p.m. Saturday also in Erie.   

NOTES - Clarion has a one-game lead over Gannon in the PSAC West. The Golden Eagles are trying to win their second straight PSAC West title … Clarion also has a three-game lead on Seton Hill with four to play in the quest for a home PSAC playoff spot.
