CLARION WOMEN'S SWIMMERS LOSE AT CMU 158-5 – 141.5
(Pittsburgh, Pa.): Clarion's
Gabriella Schaffer and
Emilee Gysegem were double winners on Saturday afternoon but the Golden Eagle women's swimming and diving team was narrowly defeated by Carnegie Mellon by a score of 158.5 – 141.5.
Schaffer won both her specialties, taking the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.28 and the 200 back with a 2:08.68 clocking.
Gysegem meanwhile won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.79 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.13. She also ended second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.33 – losing by just 28-hundredths of a second.
Also winning in the pool was
Anna McNurlen, who captured the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.90.
In the pool
Emily Ondrizek also placed second in the 50 free with a time of 25.34, while
Kelsey Slayton was second in the 100 fly with a 1:01.07 clocking.
Clarion's 200 medley relay of Schaffer, Gysegem, Slayton and Ondrizek won with a time of 1:50.17, while the 200 free relay of Ondrizek,
Summer Dacheux,
Rachel Wrotniewski and McNurlen won with a time of 1:41.26.
In diving
, Lauren Slayton won the 3 meter diving event with 280.58 points, while
Sarah Zerfoss was first in the 1 meter event (244.65) and second on 3 meter (271.88).
Noelle Melani was second on 1 meter with a score of 230.18.
Clarion is now 1-1 in dual meets this season and will swim again on Nov. 22
nd at Bloomsburg. The divers will travel to YSU next Saturday.
