CLARION WRESTLERS SWEPT AT EMU DUALS
(Ypsilanti, Michigan): Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling program opened the 2014-15 campaign at the EMU Duals on Saturday and lost all four dual meets to SIUE (19-12), Northwestern (39-6), Central Michigan (34-6) and Northern Illinois (31-7).
Held at Eastern Michigan University, the Golden Eagles are 0-4 to start the season and have defending NCAA Division I National Champion Penn State coming to Tippin Gym on Saturday, November 22
nd at 7pm. Under 1,000 tickets are still available on line at
www.clarionuniversitytickets.com. Anything remaining will be sold at the door.
On the day
Michael Pavasko, Ryan Darch and Evan Daley were sported 2-2 records, while
Seth Carr, Slade Horner and Evan DeLong were 1-3.
Clarion opened with a tough 19-12 loss to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at 9am.
Seth Carr gave Clairon a 3-0 lead with a 4-1 decision over Kenny Baldridge at 125, but three straight losses at 133, 141 and 149 put the Eagles behind 10-3. The 149 pound match saw
Sam Sherlock lose a tough 11-10 decision to Karsten Van Velsor.
Freshman
Evan Delong brought Clarion back with an 8-3 win over Erik Travers, and
Slade Horner answered with a 7-2 win over Connor McMahon making the score SIUE 10 – Clarion 9.
Michael Pavasko lost 7-2 at 174, then
Daniel Sutherland lost a tough 9-7 match to Derek Nagel at 184.
Ryan Darch answered with an important 3-2 win over Cole Rodgers at 197, but SIUE still led 16-12.
Evan Daley lost 8-5 to Chris Johnson at 285 to close the dual.
The Eagles lost 39-6 to Northwestern with
Michael Pavasko picking up a forfeit win at 174, and then lost 34-6 to Central Michigan with
ryan Darch and
Evan Daley picking up wins. Darch decisioned Austin Severn 3-2 and Daley decisioned Newton Smerchel 5-2 at 285.
In the final match the Golden Eagles lost 31-7 to Northern Illinois.
Michael Pavasko won 3-1 over Bryce Gorman at 174 and
Evan Daley came back with an 11-0 major decision over Arthur Bunce.
