BJ Andrews tied his season high with 18 points, but the Clarion University men's basketball team fell 82-61 on the road at IUP Saturday night.
Andrews, who also tied a season-high with six rebounds while adding four assists, was 6 of 11 from the field helping Clarion shoot 42 percent, the third straight game the Golden Eagles have been above 40 percent shooting after reaching the mark four times in the first 14 games.
But IUP (18-2 overall, 8-2 PSAC West) was unconscious from the field shooting a season-high 56.4 percent from the field (31 of 55) knocking down over 56 percent of their shots in each half.
That included an 18 of 32 performance in the first half that helped the Crimson Hawks gain a 46-26 halftime lead thanks in large part to a 19-0 run that took a 13-12 IUP lead six minutes into the game and turned it into a 20-point lead, 32-12, 5 ½ minutes later. Clarion didn't score a basket between an Andrews bucket at the 13:59 mark and a
DeMarius Miller jumper with 8:18 to go in the half.
Leading by the 20 at halftime, IUP then expanded the lead to as many as 31, 65-34, in the second half before a late Clarion run got the Golden Eagles back within 20.
Mike Kromka added 15 points and six rebounds for Clarion with
Marques Jones chipping in 11 points and two assists.
Brandon Norfleet had a game-high 20 points while hauling in seven rebounds to lead IUP, while Marcel Souberbielle added 14 points and five rebounds, Devante Chance 13 points and three assists and Cornell Yarde II 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Clarion (4-14, 2-8) returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pitt-Johnstown.
