MILLER, KROMKA HAVE BIG SCORING GAMES BUT CLARION FALLS TO CENTRAL PENN

Mike Kromka had 25 points, 9 rebounds, a career-high 6 assists in his final home game

Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Despite 51 combined points from DeMarius Miller and Mike Kromka, the Clarion University men's basketball team lost a 100-87 decision to United States Collegiate Athletic Association member Central Penn in the Golden Eagles home finale Monday night at Tippin Gym.

Miller netted a team-high 26 points, his eighth 20-point game of the season, to go with five assists, while Kromka, a senior playing in his final home game at Tippin Gym, had 25 points, one off his career high, to go with nine rebounds, a career-high six assists, two blocks and two steals.

But the Golden Eagles (5-19) didn't have an answer for Central Penn's Devon Dorsey, who torched Clarion's defense for a game-high 32 points while grabbing 15 rebounds, handing out four assists, stealing three balls and coming up with two blocked shots.

Behind Dorsey's 12 of 20 shooting performance, the Knights shot 50.6 percent (41 of 81) from the floor while becoming the first non-NCAA Division I or Division II team to score 100 points against the Golden Eagles since Clarion joined Division II in 1981. It was Clarion's first loss to a USCAA team (the Golden Eagles lost to a pair of NCAA Division III schools last season).

Tyree Tucker added 12 points and Connor Arnold 11 for Central Penn (18-9), which plays a mixed schedule that includes games against NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as other organizations including its own USCAA, which includes a few of the Penn State Branch campuses including Penn State-DuBois and Penn State-Beaver, who Clarion both beat this season.

Aaron Johnson added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who looked in good shape 13 minutes into the game building a 41-31 lead.

But Central Penn ended the first half on a 23-10 run that gave the Knights a 54-51 halftime lead despite Clarion shooting 56.4 percent (22 of 39) in the half.

The second half then belonged to Central Penn with the Knights outscoring Clarion 46-36.

A half-starting 11-4 run gave Central Penn its first double-digit lead, 65-55, of the game, and Clarion never got closer than six, 65-59, which it did with 16:48 to play.

Clarion was still within seven, 72-65, with 13:20 to play after a Kromka basket, but Central Penn put the game away with a 12-4 run that got the lead to 15, 84-69, with 8:46 left.

The Golden Eagles closes out the season with a PSAC West road game at Edinboro starting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

NOTES – The game was originally scheduled for Nov. 26 but was postponed that day due to snow and moved to Monday night.
