SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion University women's volleyball team continued to roll with a pair of 3-0 victories in PSAC Crossover play Saturday at Shippensburg.
The Golden Eagles (12-0 overall, 4-0 PSAC) picked up a 25-13, 25-16, 25-12 win over host Shippensburg early Saturday then in the afternoon knocked off defending PSAC Champion Pitt-Johnstown by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-11.
BRAUNAGEL KEY IN WIN OVER SHIPPENSBURG In the victory over Shippensburg, freshman outside hitter
Taylor Braunagel was key to the offense with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage (11 kills, 3 errors, 24 attempts). She also had five digs and two blocks.
Mackenzie Biggs added seven kills and three blocks while hitting .400 (7-1-15), and
Carlie Bieranowski chipped in six kills and 10 digs with
Gabrielle Olson also recording six kills to go with four blocks.
Laura Subject was the catalyst of the offense with 31 set assists while adding four kills, nine digs and a block.
Defensively,
Morgan Seybold had 27 digs with Catherin Ferragonio adding seven and
Mattison Thornton five.
COX STRONG IN VICTORY OVER MOUNTAIN CATS Against Pitt-Johnstown,
Abbey Cox was on fire recording 13 kills while hitting .571 (13-1-21). Bieranowski and Braunagel were also strong with nine kills each, and Bieranowski added 12 digs. Biggs also had eight kills.
Subject set the offense up with 31 set assists while also having a strong game on defense with 11 digs and two blocks.
Seybold had a team-high 19 digs, and Ferragonio added nine and Thornton five.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 7 p.m. Friday when they host Seton Hill in the home PSAC West opener.
NOTES – This is the second straight year Clarion is 12-0 and the third time in school history it is 12-0. The Golden Eagles started 14-0 last year and 12-0 in 2007.
