#8 Connor Simmons Runs For 1st Qtr TDCLARION DROPS HOMECOMING GAME 33-7 TO GANNON

Connor Simmons 7-yard td run in the first quarter had Clarion trailing only 10-7 at halftime, but a big second half by Gannon gave the Golden Knights a 33-7 win over the Golden Eagles in NCAA Division II football on Saturday afternoon.

               The ALF/Homecoming game played in front of 5,500 fans at Clarion's Memorial Stadium saw the Golden Eagles drop to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC-West, while Gannon remained undefeated at 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the West.

               Gannon running back Brock Jones rushed for 213 yards, while qb Liam Nadler threw for 246 yards and rushed for 3 td's to lead the Knights.

               Clarion's offense had success in the first half, including its first two possessions of the game. Clarion's
Delrece Williams returned the opening kickoff 42 yards to midfield, and then the eagles drove the pigskin 31 yards to the Gannon 19, where the drive stalled.
Scott Ayers came on for a 36-yard field goal attempt that was deflected Gannon's Nick Bengal falling short of the crossbar.

            Gannon took the ball and drove to the Clarion 9, where the defense held and Karch Holland came on to boot a 27-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead at 4:49 of the first.

            The Golden Eagles started their next drive at the Eagle 37, and Clarion drove 63 yards in only 7 plays to take a 7-3 lead. Eagle qb

Caleb Mancini  for 42 yards early in the drive to the Gannon 21. Simmons hit
Zach Deitrick for 14 yards to the Knight 7, setting up Simmons scrambling 7-yard td run on second down. Ayers PAT had Clarion in front 7-3 with 34-seconds left in the first.

            Gannon drove 80-yards on 11 plays in the second quarter to take the lead for good. Gannon qb Liam Nadler hit Brendan Klemensic with a 21-yard td pass for a 10-3 lead at 7:56 of the second.

            Gannon scored 23-unanswered points in the second half to put the gamer away 33-7.

            Nadler scored on td runs of 27 and 1 yards, Holland booted a 33-yard field goal, and Nadler capped the scoring with another 1-yard run for Gannon's victory.

           Clarion had 203 yards of offense on the day, getting 107 rushing and 96 passing. QB
Connor Simmons completed 7 of 19 passes for 96 yards.
Bobby Thomas (photo left) rushed for 42 yards on 8 carries, while
Delrece Williams posted 38 yards on 9 carries.

            Gannon had 531 yards of offense including 285 rushing yards and 246 passing yards. Brock Jones ran 32 times for 213 yards, while Nadler completed 21 of 33 passes for 246 yards and 1 td. Justin Caliste caught 11 passes for 112 yards.
