CLARION, Pa. – Visiting Mercyhurst used a 13-4 second-half run to knock off Clarion 69-63 in PSAC West men's basketball action Wednesday night at Tippin Gym.
Clarion (6-8 overall, 4-7 PSAC West) led 28-23 at halftime and 34-33 four minutes into the second half before the game was tied at 39 with 13 minutes to play.
At that point, the Lakers (12-5, 9-3) went on the run that saw six different players score to take a 52-43 lead with 5:14 left on a layup by Sean Beins.
The Golden Eagles didn't go away and closed within two, 52-50, with a 7-0 spurt that saw
Aaron Johnson score an old-school 3-point play and
Tyrone McFadden and
Kyheim Hall get layups. But that was as close as Clarion got, as a quick 6-0 spurt by Mercyhust put the lead back to eight, 58-50, with two minutes left.
BJ Andrews recorded his first career 20-point game in the loss netting a game-high 21 for Clarion to go with three rebounds.
Darius Stevens added 11 points and six rebounds, while
Rob Agurs had eight points, two steals, two assists, three rebounds and a steal and
Kyheim Hall nine points.
Damon Jones paced Mercyhurst with 13 points and five rebounds, while Gerrae Williams, Callon Dailey and Andy Hoying each had 10 points for the Lakers.
Clarion returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday at Edinboro.
