MEN'S BBALL CAN'T OVERCOME EARLY HOLE IN LOSS AT EDINBORO

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Clarion University men's basketball team couldn't overcome an early hole and fell at Edinboro 83-60 in PSAC West play Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles (6-9 overall, 4-8 PSAC West) found themselves down 21, 32-11, 16 minutes into the game. And while it made a couple of runs at the Fighting Scots (8-9, 5-8), the Golden Eagles could never get closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Kyheim Hall and Rob Agurs led Clarion with 15 points each with Agurs adding six rebounds, six assists and three steals and Hall chipping in five rebounds and three steals.  Darius Stevens and Brandon Williams, back after missing six games, each added 10 points for the Golden Eagles with Williams also coming up with three steals.

Henri Wade-Chatman paced all scorers with 20 points for Edinboro while adding eight rebounds and seven assists. Jaymon Mason chipped in with 16 points, Casey Baker had 12, Sheldon Brogdon 11 and Will Marrow nine for the Fighting Scots.

For the second straight road game, Clarion struggled from the floor hitting just 35.1 percent (20 of 57) of its shots including just 7 of 31 (22.6 percent) in the first half. The Golden Eagles were also 16 of 26 from the free-throw line.

Edinboro shot 55.2 percent from the field (32 of 58) and outrebounded Clarion 40-28. The Fighting Scots were lights out in the second half connecting on 62.5 percent (15 of 24) of their shots.

Down by 21 with just over four minutes to play in the opening half, Clarion made things interesting with a 10-0 run that was fueled by a half-court trapping defense that caused eight Edinboro turnover in less than three minutes.

But the Fighting Scots were able to stop the bleeding a bit before halftime and took a 37-21 lead into the break.

Edinboro, thanks to the hot shooting, then started to pull away in the second half taking a 12-point lead, 45-33, with 16 minutes left and turning it into a 25-point advantage, 62-37, with 10 ½ left.

Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Slippery Rock.
