Basketball (Men's) | 1/16/2015 3:01:00 PM

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion University men's basketball team is looking to snap a 3-game slide when it travels to Edinboro for a 3 p.m. showdown with the Fighting Scots Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (6-8 overall, 4-7 PSAC West) are coming off a 69-63 loss to Mercyhurst Wednesday and have lost two of their previous three games by a combined total of seven points and have four losses by six points of less this season.

Clarion, which has dropped five in a row to Edinboro sine an 86-79 win at Edinboro Jan. 28, 2012, has played better at McComb Fieldhouse in recent years winning 2 of the last four games played at Edinboro.

Darius Stevens paces a Clarion offense that averages 72.6 points per game by scoring 13.0 points per contest to go with 6.2 rebounds per game. Kyheim Hall adds 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game but has been stuck in a three-game funk that has seen him score just 18 points to go with seven rebounds after being named PSAC West Athlete of the Week Jan. 8. BJ Andrews adds 11.0 points per game and is coming off a career-high 21-point effort against Mercyhurst.

Defensively, Clarion continues to lead the conference in steals per game with 12.21, which ranks fifth in the nation. Hall ranks second in the PSAC and 17th in NCAA Division II in steals per game with 2.71, while Andrews is 12th in the conference in steals with 1.9 spg, Cameron Grumley is 15th with 1.7 spg and Stevens is 15th with 1.6 spg.

Edinboro (7-9, 4-8) possesses a high-scoring offense that ranks fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 76.4 points per contest, and the Fighting Scots give up the fifth-fewest points per game at 67.1 but has struggled to win the closes ones losing five games by four points or less including three 2-point losses.

The Fighting Scots, who have lost four of five, are coming of a 79-69 loss to IUP Wednesday that saw Jaymon Mason scored 15 points and Henri Wade-Chatman 14.

Those two players are the lone double-digit scorers for Edinboro with Wade-Chatman leading the team and ranking second in the PSAC in scoring at 19.1 points per game, and Mason adding 14.3 points per contest. Tommy Scales chips in with 8.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, and Casey Daker adds 7.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.

After Saturday, Clarion is back in action at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Slippery Rock before returning home to face IUP at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24.
