Game Recap: Basketball (Women's) |

HOLMES' SIXTH 20-POINT GAME OF SEASON NOT ENOUGH FOR WBB IN 11-POINT LOSS AT SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Tania Holmes recorded her sixth 20-point game of the the season, but Slippery Rock outscored visiting Clarion by 13 in the second half to get a 68-57 win in PSAC West women's basketball action Wednesday evening.

Holmes scored 20 points, including 17 in the second half, for Clarion (1-17 overall, 0-13 PSAC West), but Slippery Rock outscored the Golden Eagles 39-26 in the second half to erase a 31-29 halftime deficit.

D'Asia Chambers led all scorers with 21 points while adding 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals for The Rock.

For Clarion, Holmes added six assists, four steals and five rebounds but was the only Golden Eagle in double figures. Jasmine Boyd, Delrika Jones-Carey and Jen Straw each added seven points with Straw also grabbing six rebounds and Boyd and Jones-Carey four boards apiece.

Megan Hardiman added 14 points for Slippery Rock with Erica Aiello and Audrey Stapleton each adding nine tallies.

Clarion started quickly taking an early 10-4 lead thanks in part to four points from Boyd, but Slippery Rock came back and took a 28-24 lead late in the half.

The Golden Eagles, though, ended the half on a 7-3 run that Cara Cook finished off with a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in the half that gave Clarion the 31-29 lead at the break.

The lead grew to four, 37-33, early in the second half following a 3-pointer by Holmes, one of a career-high six triples by the junior, but Slippery Rock answered with a 12-3 run to go ahead 45-40 on a Chambers jumper with 12:10 left.

Clarion got the game back within two, 47-45, on an old-school 3-point play with Boyd with 10:21 to play before The Rock went on a 9-1 spurt over the next four minutes to get the lead to double digits, 56-46, with 6:20 left.

The Golden Eagles had a golden opportunity to cut into the lead following a pair of charity shots by Chambers that put the lead to 10 for Slippery Rock when The Rock was called for a technical foul for trying to play with six players. But Amesha Harden-Pullium hit just one of the two charity shots, and Jones-Carey, who was fouled after the inbounds following the free throws, hit just one of two free ones to turn a potential five-point possession into just a two-point one.

Clarion was never able to get closer than seven, 61-54 (3:36 to play), the rest of the way.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 5:30 p.m. Saturday when they host IUP.
