CHEYNEY, Pa. - Newcomer Rob Agurs wasted little time making his presence felt scoring nine points during a key second-half run that lifted the Clarion University men's basketball team to a 98-82 win at Cheyney Saturday.

Agurs, who followed first-year head coach Marcess Williams from Penn State-Beaver, recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while adding three steal and two assists in his first Clarion game. He was especially good during a 23-6 Golden Eagle run midway through the second half that turned a six-point deficit, 62-56, with 11:32 to play into an 11-point lead, 79-68, six minutes later.

The junior then scored three more points during a game-sealing 7-0 run that started with just under four minutes to play after Cheyney had closed back within six, 81-75.

Agurs was one of six Clarion players to reach double digits.

Kyheim Hall led Clarion (5-5 overall, 3-4 PSAC West) with 22 points while adding six rebounds and going a perfect 10 of 10 from the free-throw line, part of the reason Clarion was 33 of 37 from the charity stripe including hitting its first 23 free throws. Hall had six of his points during the game-changing second-half run.

BJ Andrews added 16 points, two steals and two rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while Cameron Grumley had 15 points, four assists and four steals including six points during the second-half run.

Also for Clarion, Darius Stevens chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds and Justin Grant had had 10 points.

Cheyney (1-11, 0-7 PSAC East) got 25 points from Kevin Larkin and 20 points from Rasahn Brinkley while Juwan Mullen added 10 tallies.

The Wolves led 44-40 at halftime despite Clarion going 19 of 19 from the line in the opening 20 points and expanded that lead to as many as eight, 50-42, in the early moments of the second half before a 12-4 run by Clarion tied the game at 54 five minutes into the half.

Cheyney once again pushed the lead back to six, 62-56, with 11:32 to play before three straight points from Agurs including a steal and a dunk started the game-chaning 23-6 run.

Clarion, which matched its win total from last season, returns to action at 3 p.m. Sunday at Millersville.
