JONES-CAREY, HOLMES, BOYD HAVE SOLID GAMES IN WBB LOSS AT MILLERSVILLE

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Despite getting double-digit performances from Delrika Jones-Carey, Tania Holmes and Jasmine Boyd, the Clarion University women's basketball team dropped a 79-54 road decision at Millersville Sunday afternoon.

Jones-Carey continued her strong recent play with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds. Holmes added 13 points and three assists, and Boyd chipped in with 10 points. Cara Cook also had nine tallies for the Golden Eagles (1-12 overall, 0-8 PSAC West).

Millersville (10-4, 7-2 PSAC East) got a game-high 17 points from Carty Gallagher, 15 from Courtney Hinnant and 10 from Aungel Van Brackle.

The Golden Eagles trailed by just six, 37-31, at halftime, but connected on just 33.3 percent (9 of 27) in the second half while the Marauders shot a blistering 57.1 percent (16 of 28) in the half to outscored Clarion 42-23 in the second 20 minutes including starting the half with a 23-5 run led by seven points each from Gallagher and Hinnant.

Millersville started fast building an 11-2 lead five minutes into the game and led 25-15 with seven minutes left in the opening half.

Clarion fought back going on a 9-0 run that saw Jones-Carey score four points and Holme hit a 3-pointer to close the gap to one, 25-24, with 4:19 left before intermission.

The Marauders, though, answered Holmes' three with a pair of triples by Shelby Reimer to help get the lead back to six at the break.

The loss ended a four-game road trip for the Golden Eagles, who return home at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to face Shippensburg.
