MEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS SHIPPENSBURG WEDNESDAY

Basketball (Men's) | 1/6/2015 4:50:00 PM

CLARION, Pa. – Following a three-game road swing through the PSAC East that was split up by the holiday break, the Clarion University men's basketball team returns to Tippin Gym for the first time since mid-December when it hosts Shippensburg at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The road trip was a successful one for the Golden Eagles, who took 2 of 3 from East foes West Chester, Cheyney and Millersville sweeping a PSAC road crossover weekend this past weekend for the first time in three years with wins over Cheyney (98-82) and Millersville (80-78).

The two wins over the weekend helped Clarion surpass its season win total from a year ago while matching the win total of two seasons ago. The Golden Eagles are 6-4 and 4-4 in the PSAC West under first-year head coach Marcess Williams and have won four of six.

Shippensburg, meanwhile, is 6-6 on the year and 2-6 in the PSAC East. The Raiders have dropped four of five and are 0-3 away from home.

Clarion is led by juniors Darius Stevens (13.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Kyheim Hall (13.3 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.2 spg, which leads the PSAC and is fifth in the country), sophomore BJ Andrews (11.5 ppg, 2.1 spg) and freshman Cameron Grumley (9.1 ppg, 2.3 apg and 1.8 spg).

Hall and Grumley were both honored by the PSAC Monday with Hall being named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week and Grumley the PSAC Freshman of the Week.

Shippensburg is paced by Dylan Edgar's 15.5 points and PSAC-leading 10.4 rebounds per game, while Justin McCarthur adds 12.6 ppg, Abe Massaley 10.5 ppg and Jay Hardy 9.8 ppg.

Clarion enters the game as the eighth-highest scoring team in the PSAC at 75 points per game, and the Golden Eagles lead the conference and rank fifth in the nation in steals per game with 13.18 while recording the fourth-best turnover margin in the PSAC at a plus 2.82.

Shippensburg averages 70.3 points per game and is 16th in the conference in turnover margin at minus 2.33 per contest.

After Wednesday, Clarion gets back to PSAC West play at 3 p.m. Saturday when it travels to Seton Hill.
