CLARION NOTCHES 3-1 VICTORY OVER RAIDERS

(Clarion, PA) – The Clarion Golden Eagles women's soccer team defeated the Shippensburg Raiders 3-1 in the midst of a cold Sunday afternoon. Freshman defender Veronika Noyszewski found the net to notch her first career goal.

The win improved the Golden Eagles to (4-10-1) on the season, while Shippensburg fell to (7-6-1).

After a scoreless first half, Clarion jumped ahead with an impressive lob shot from sophomore forward Aaliyah Odom at the 61:16 mark in the second half.  A pass from junior forward Aubrey Monte set up Odom's 3rd goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles the lead.

With less than 20 minutes left in the match, freshman defender Veronika Noyszewski dribbled the ball from midfield and finished with a 10 yard strike to extend the lead to 2-0.  This goal was the first of Noyszewki's career.

Shippensburg got on the board in the 81st minute from a goal by freshman midfielder Kiersten Priest.  Priest received a pass from Brianna Brancato and was able to put it past goalkeeper Krista Mosi.  Mosi finished the day with 12 saves on 20 shots, only allowing the one goal.

In the 89th minute junior midfielder McKenzie Sheesley broke away from defenders and fired a shot that was saved by Raiders goalkeeper Leah Roy, however Sheesley collected the rebound and finished with her 3rd goal of the year to secure the victory for the Golden Eagles.

Clarion returns to action Tuesday, October 20th as they host Malone University at 4pm at Memorial Stadium.
