(Clarion, PA) – The Clarion Golden Eagles women's soccer team notched a 3-2 victory over the visiting Malone Pioneers on Tuesday.
Back to back wins for the Golden Eagles improves their record to (5-10-1), while Malone falls to (5-10) on the season.
Clarion started off the scoring early, as junior
Alissa Spencer was able to find the back of the net off of a free kick from sophomore midfielder
Erin Rodgers at 12:40. Spencer also had another opportunity soon after that was saved by Pioneer goalkeeper Leah Rauscher.
Spencer's solid afternoon continued just minutes into the second half as she fired in her 2
nd goal of the day, and 3
rd of the season after a corner kick from sophomore defender
Anna Chamberlin.
At the 53:20 mark, Chamberlin fired off a shot that blew past goalkeeper Rauscher and extended the Golden Eagles lead to 3-0.
Malone's offensive effort was led by junior Christine Naijar, who added two late goals at 64:24 and 83:23 to put pressure on the Golden Eagles. Clarion goalkeepers
Krista Mosi and
Richele Botzer combined to make 12 saves and hold off the late Pioneer rally.
Clarion returns to action Saturday, October 24
th as they host West Chester University at 1pm at Memorial Stadium, the last home game of the Golden Eagles season.
