Game Recap: Basketball (Women's) |

WBB FALLS TO WALSH BY 76-57 SCORE

CLARION, Pa. – Both Tyra Polite and Delrika Jones-Carey very nearly recorded double-doubles on Tuesday, but the Clarion women's basketball team fell to Walsh by a 76-57 score at Tippin Gymnasium.  The Golden Eagles saw their modest two-game win streak snapped and fell to 2-4 on the season.

Polite recorded a team-high 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting while also hauling in eight rebounds and recording a game-high three blocked shots.   Jones-Carey wasn't far behind her, posting 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and posted a game-high nine rebounds.  Jordan Bekelja joined those two in double-digits scoring with 10 points and also had five assists.

The Golden Eagles rebounded from a tough first half to go blow-for-blow with the Cavaliers in the final 20 minutes, with Walsh out-scoring Clarion just 30-29 in the second half.  Kelsey Funderburgh had a game-high 26 points on 12-of-22 shooting.

Clarion led for most of the first quarter, building up a lead of five points on a jumper by Nicole Maxson with 6:48 to play.  Polite kept the lead at five points on each of the next two possessions, making a runner with 6:19 to play in the quarter to make it 13-8 and adding a three-pointer with 5:27 left to make it 16-11.

The Cavaliers went ahead late in the first quarter but couldn't run away with it as the Golden Eagles took the fight to them, making it just a two-point game with 7:06 left in the second quarter after a Jen Straw lay-up.  Walsh opened it up to close out the quarter and took an 18-point lead into halftime.

Things were even from that point onward, with the teams trading points for the remainder of the game.  Despite the nearly-even scoring in the second half, Walsh locked up the win with a strong finish to the fourth quarter.
