(Buffalo, N.Y.): The Clarion Women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 campaign on Tuesday night with an Exhibition game at NCAA Division I Buffalo where the Bulls topped the Golden Eagles 92-62.
Playing the new format, four, ten minutes quarters, Buffalo jumped out to a 28-8 first quarter lead, then outscored Clarion 22-15 in the second quarter to take a 50-23 lead into halftime.
Clarion played a strong second half and was outscored by the Bulls by a only a 42-39 margin. In the third quarter Clarion dropped that stanza by only a 16-15 margin, then lost the fourth quarter 26-24.
Leading the way for Clarion was senior point guard
Tania Holmes who had 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. Freshman guard
Jordan Bekelja was next in line with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, junior
Tyra Polite had 11 points and 4 rebounds and junior
Jen Straw notched 10 points and 2 rebounds.
Joanna Smith led the Bulls with 20 points, while Brittany Morrison added 17 and a game high 9 rebounds.
Clarion was 18 of 60 from the floor (30%), and 11 of 30 from the three point stripe (36.7%), plus shot 55.7% from the charity stripe (15 of 27).
Clarion plays another NCAA D-I exhibition on Nov. 8 at Akron - game time is 2pm.
