MBB BATTLES BUT DROPS TIGHT DECISION AT LOCK HAVEN

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Clarion men's basketball team struggled to shoot the ball but hung around until the very end thanks to strong rebounding and aggressive defense, but the Golden Eagles fell just short in a 75-66 loss at Lock Haven on Saturday.  Clarion (6-4, 4-2 PSAC) will next be in action on Sunday, Dec. 13 when they face West Liberty on the road.

Andre' Anthony tied for the game-high with 17 points and did top all players with seven assists while committing just three turnovers.  BJ Andrews and Larry Johnson, Jr. each posted 10 points, with Johnson's total coming off the bench.  De'Ondre Terrell had nine points, eight rebounds and three steals in 30 minutes of work.

The Golden Eagles shot just 30.7 percent from the floor but made up for it with tenacity on the boards, outrebounding the Bald Eagles 48-42 and pulling in 24 offensive boards.  They were also better at managing the basketball, forcing Lock Haven into 15 turnovers on the afternoon.  Clarion turned those miscues into 15 points while themselves allowing just 11 points off turnovers.

Clarion only very briefly held the lead in the game, going ahead 3-2 after Tim Gill made one of two free throws just two minutes into the contest.  The Bald Eagles built up a double-digit lead less than five minutes in and held it until the 6:34 mark of the first half, when Anthony made a midrange jumper to cut it to 35-26.  Anthony drilled a three-pointer on his next trip down the floor to make it a two-possession ballgame, and the deficit narrowed to just five points after Johnson made a pair of free throws to cut it to 43-38 with 1:31 to go.  Lock Haven carried momentum through the end of the half, however, with Bootsie Walker making a shot as time expired to make it 48-40 at half.

The Golden Eagles weren't done, however.  Andrews cut the Bald Eagle lead to four points with a three-pointer at the 16:24 mark of the second half, and Gill sliced it to two points on a transition make after Andrews stole the ball from Walker and sent it the other way to Anthony, who fed Gill for the points.  Anthony went on a personal 4-0 run to give Clarion its first lead since the beginning of the first half, making a pair of free throws and knocking down a jumper to make it 60-58 with 8:41 to play.

The game was tied at 63-63 after Terrell made the first of two free throws with 4:41 remaining, but the Bald Eagles outscored Clarion 12-3 the rest of the way to clinch the victory.
